My "guess" is HBO Max wants to position themselves so they are not in direct competition with Disney+, hence the removal of so much "kids" and young adult content. So, theoretically, Disney+ is the "family" app and HBO Max is for adults. At least that seems to be how they're positioning themselves. I think Zaslav is clueless about which of his shows would appeal to grown-ups too, though.

The horror series Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin got renewed for a 2nd season by HBO Max
I didn't bother doing a thread for it as the show doesn't fit the demographic of this forum. I have been enjoying it even though it's quite over the top and silly sometimes. It's basically an R rated and more violent version of the long-running Freeform show with more blood and cursing. |

My DirecTV promo for HBO Max expires tomorrow. It would go back to regular $14.99/month pricing. I cancelled it off DirecTV and signed up directly with HBO Max with the new discount $104.99 for the year. My AMEX card also has a promo to get $25 off a $100 or more HBO Max purchase. And that was effective with this transaction.
Grand total= $79.99 for a year and about $6.67 per month. That works for me. I also activated the Rakuten $16 back promo as well. So that could take more money off. |

For reasons related to the complicated structure of that merger, no negotiations can happen until April 2024. But at that point, many industry observers believe that Comcast’s Brian Roberts will make a long-awaited move, looking to combine NBCUniversal and Warner Bros. Discovery. That deal would face some interesting antitrust issues but would give his company scale and a viable streaming service. “Obviously Peacock sucks,” says one exec with knowledge of both companies. “There are some good synergies. I’m sure [Roberts] is licking his chops because the [WBD] stock is so low. And I think that’s Zaslav’s endgame. A police pension fund is suing HBO Max/Discovery for cooking subscriber numbers (basically including those who got HBO Max for free but never bothered to login). I'm kind of surprised they're not forced to separate out the paid subscribers from the "free" ones in the first place.

Must sign up using the link in your Capital One account and pay with your Capital One card, so it cannot be stacked with other referral offers the way the AMEX cash back could.
