I dunno. The Apple one paid out for me to the tune of over $270. That was over 1/4 of my original purchase price on each of those phones.

I've gotten several hundred back over a number of class action lawsuits. 2-3 minutes filling out the form, wait sometimes years and coffee money at some point.
But yeah for the most part, it's only the lawyers involved getting an exorbitant amount of money.

More confirmation of the neutering of the ad supported tier (No DV/DA) thou it may be a way to escape some of the licensing costs.

4K Filme confirmed that this was the case on TVs from both LG and Sony; Forbes also confirmed the news using a TCL TV.
"In the ads-free account, the TV throws up its own confirmation boxes to say that the show is playing in Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos. In the basic, with-ads account, however, the TV’s Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos pop-up boxes remain stubbornly absent," Forbes said.
Amazon hasn't explained its reasoning for the feature removal, but it may be trying to cut back on licensing fees paid to Dolby Laboratories. Amazon may also hope to push HDR10+, a Dolby Vision competitor that's free and open. It also remains possible that we could one day see the return of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos to the ad tier through a refreshed licensing agreement.

In 2017, though, Prime Video stopped supporting the format in favor of HDR10+. Amazon announced the HDR10+ format alongside Samsung, and it subsequently made the entire Prime Video library available in HDR10+. But in 2022, Prime Video started offering content like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in Dolby Vision once again.

HDR10+ is a dead format walking. Dolby Vision has already won this little competition in the marketplace. It would take both Apple and Amazon refusing Dolby Vision to make any impact whatsoever, which isn't happening.

Makes some sense if the Prime with ads thing is going well, and maybe it means that they add all that stuff back onto Prime since a ton of freevee content was on Prime before.

I’d be ok if they got rid of FreeVee since that means I could watch Bosch: Legacy ad-free. I don’t think they will though, because FreeVee captures viewers who aren’t Prime members.

So far, the Amazon ads are before the movie begins. However, I have to wonder how long it will be before Amazon starts putting ads at various places in movies.
Instead of having it's Prime Members pay an additional $2.99 a month to remove ads, they should have done the opposite: offered Prime Members who were ok with ads...be subject to a yearly $36 price reduction.

So far, the Amazon ads are before the movie begins. However, I have to wonder how long it will be before Amazon starts putting ads at various places in movies.

It's the same for shows so far, too. Only a couple shorts ads before they start. Nothing during.

Prime Video is a value added feature. They weren't going to reduce the price of Prime for it by any means.
You can be an optimist and look at it like they raised the price of Prime by $36/year but didn't automatically enroll you in it.

I suspect this ad play was mostly about keeping the overall price of Prime membership down. It's already at the point where Prime's benefits may not warrant the annual fee. Any further increases over the base rate would have probably seen a mass exodus from Prime altogether. However though there's a certain critical mass of Prime users Amazon needs. What that point is is kept carefully hidden from outsiders.

Of course, Disney+ added the ad-supported tier by raising the price of ad-free, then making ad-supported the old ad-free price.

And both of those only had to worry about video subscribers using the service to stream video. With Prime, the basic service includes so much more than just video streaming, so offering a price discount would've meant a lot of people that never watch Prime Video, and thus wouldn't be watching ads to subsidize the discount, getting the discount and cutting into Amazon's revenue.

I never used Freevee that much but thought I would watch something before it went away. So I watched the 2020 documentary "Skin: A History of Nudity in the Movies." It's interesting and brings in actors/actresses who got nude and movie directors. It covers everything from silents to #metoo. And shows almost every big nude scene...both male and female.

Amazon has claimed they have no plans to get rid of FreeVee. I mean, sure, take that with a grain of salt, but that's their official statement as of this week.

Well that was quick. The "comfort food" shows I like to watch (Wild Wild West, Murder She Wrote, Suits) have already gone from 2 commercials an hour to 3. Wheel of Time still has 2 commercials per hour. On the other hand some British shows (Unforgotten, spooks) don't even have the pre-show commercial. And I watched 2 documentaries that didn't have any commercials either. I guess they're still working on the algorithm.

Came across another ad on Firestick for Nerdwallet. Watch it and get $4 Prime video credit. It was on the home page at the top section (scroll right until you see it)
The ad says on "these" movies, there were 4 listed.
But it appears on Amazon it works on anything.
Promotion ends 3/31; credit expires 4/30
