How does one unsubscribe to Amazon Prime? I want to do it before they charge me for another year.

Just go to your Account. There's a section there for "Manage Prime Membership" In there, there's a place for cancelling under the Manage Membership section.

Then question, then, is what series are being impacted. I pay little attention to producer's names so I cannot link any of these layoffs to the shows that I like.

Actual production of shows and movies are created by freelance employees.

These layoffs are mostly with staff at those enterprises under Amazon. Basically they’re cutting some fat.

I think a lot of the layoffs came from the MGM+/Epix side. I had completely forgotten they bought that.

Today’s the day, I guess we’ll find out how bad it is, I’m sure it’ll get worse over time, can’t take a leak without being bombarded by ads.

It's gotta be just bad enough to make an extra 3 bucks a month seem worth it, right?

Even though my Prime Store Card is my default payment method Amazon.com can't find it ("We had a problem retrieving your payment method. Please check your payment settings, and then try again") when trying to process payment for ad-free. My pre-order was canceled for non-payment and a manual subscription fails.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

Hmmm, I watched an episode of "A Toy Store Near You" and didn't get a single ad during the 19 minute episode. Started Fast X and Asteroid City from the beginning and no ads before the movies. Then started Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and there was a short Friskies ad before the movie. I guess Amazon knows that I have a cat. So ads may be targeted based on what you've previously bought on Amazon, it seems.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

Just got off a two hour call with Amazon. It turns out that, for whatever reason, the Prime Store card isn't enabled for ad-free subscriptions. You can't use it to subscribe nor can you change the payment method to your Prime Store card if you use another payment method for your ad-free subscription. It is rather bizarre that the Prime Store card needs to be enabled for anything on an Amazon.com account, and a ridiculous failure for them not to have done so already for ad-free subscriptions.

What is the Prime Store card, they're labeled Citi card or something else? That seems really weird unless it messes with their cash back formula or something, especially if you can use it on other subscriptions (including Prime itself).

It's their store only card... a Synchony Financial card. 5% back on all Amazon purchases. Adds up quick.

Amazon Amazon

Ridiculous it doesn't work for the ad free upgrade.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

So, this $2.99 is monthly? Why can’t they add it into subscription price or lump sum. This $2.99 for ad-free is ridiculous, but has to be monthly?

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

So I just watched Expats on Prime video under the new system.

There is a 1 minute worth of commercials at the beginning of the episode and then it plays uninterrupted the rest of the way,

(I'm going to save the $3. If that's how it will be, then that's hardly something to be outraged about)

They bill for the montly service and the ad-free option is a seperately billed add-on. It is as if Amazon is following their model.

A model I like, at least with Peacock. They only have ads at the beginning of movies, not the middle, which is tolerable so I don't need ad-free to watch movies on Peacock. For series they have several ad breaks every episode, which I can't stand. I can subscribe to ad-free for a month and binge, then cancel. It's ideal for how I watch.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

So I watched at movie ("Airplane!") to see how the ad thing goes. A pop-up lets you know about the ads and asks if you want the $2.99 add-on. I said "No thanks." 2 ads totaled 25 seconds before the movie starts. No more ads during the movie.

That I can deal with. But I doubt it lasts. See Hulu.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

Everyone has their personal thresholds. As long as the ads only appear before the movie, they can be up to a couple mins.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

I've seen some people saying that there are multiple ad breaks in an episode and they don't even fall into the "natural" breaks, which seems like a really terrible implementation, so maybe it varies by series or even by person right now.

I haven’t seen a single ad on purchases, so who knows.
