I've always been interested in Dr. Who because the DVDs are so expensive. I'll give it a couple of eps.

Also the show shifts tone a bit as they change through actors and showrunners, so if the first few episodes don't grab you, I could suggest a few alternative "jumping in" points.

It's one of those shows that get better as you go like Babylon 5 and Farscape. you almost have to suffer through it for a bit before you get the big pay-off that everyone promises you'll get to.

I actually liked it from episode one, but the first series has some "campy" elements that some may cringe at. There's also shifts from horror to adventure to comedy from episode to episode, and sometimes even within an episode.

Correct. They have Flixster, which is a shit app. You can connect to it by linking your UV account, but it's an ugly app to use.

Both monthly subscription tiers are more expensive than Amazon's annual subscription. The company raised the price from $79 to $99 in the spring of 2014. The $10.99-a-month Prime membership is equivalent to nearly $132 for the year, while the $8.99 a month Prime Video option is nearly $108 a year. What makes these monthly options attractive, however, is that they can be canceled at any time. So, a customer can sign up for the monthly plan, binge the first two seasons of Transparent and then cancel the plan.

It wouldn't make sense to raise the annual subscription to match. The idea is to make the monthly commitment more expensive than yearly.
This. They probably figure the people who haven't committed to yearly (and can't get the free month anymore) might try it for a month and decide to continue. The worst-case scenario is that they don't renew but Amazon loses a lot of money on free shipping because they bought a ton of stuff during that time.

I went with the 10.99 a month. I don't like paying the money all up front.
They should have a separate website away from Amazon.com. It's too confusing. I might be buying stuff without knowing it.
It's evident that they,Netflix and Hulu need a lot of work on showing their available programming because it's a sea of web pages and if you don't know what you're looking for it's going too take age's too find something too watch.

As long as I have the funds available after my free year of Prime is up, I plan to renew at the annual price. But I don't have to worry about that until December.

I doubt it'll be anytime soon. They just finished their migration in AWS in February, although they also keep a backup of everything in Google Cloud Storage:
