Vudu started charging me tax yesterday. I don't know if this is a glitch. As far as I know, there isn't a tax on digital items in Florida. None of the other streaming sites have added tax yet. And they're charging 13% which seems ridiculous.

Here's a spreadsheet which gives info on 4K Code redemptions.

Doesn't matter. It will redeem in 4K, but since you don't have it, it will default to HDX playback.

Because it's a 4K code. Process of elimination. You don't have 4K, so it defaults to HDX. what else would it default to? This also happens when you redeem on a computer that may not have the proper resolution, etc. Sometimes i get a disclaimer that it can't play in 4K via my computer, but when I watch it via my Apple TV 4K it's there in 4K. Should you ever get 4K digital access, the code will be there in 4K.

Vudu has admitted that they've made a mistake in charging Communications Services Tax in Florida & Kentucky. The CST tax should only apply to rentals and not purchases. They're going to correct the problem and issue refunds.

Here's an update from the Official Vudu Forum:

Thank you for your posting. We recently identified an error in our system which went into effect at the beginning of November, where incorrect tax amounts were added to movie or TV purchases (not rentals) made in the states of Florida and Kentucky. We are working to remedy the error, which should be reflected in future purchases made in the coming days. (Note that the tax for rentals is correct; this only applies to purchases.) For our customers in Florida and Kentucky, who have made a purchase in which you were charged an incorrect tax amount, we plan to provide you a credit for your Vudu account within the next few weeks. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you and we hope we can continue to earn your business.

I bought a couple seasons of The Magicians not long ago and the content is edited. Whenever a profanity is used the sound is muted or garbled and the subtitle is altered. This is really become quite irritating. I'd like to know who did this... was done by SiFi channel or Vudu?

I believe Vudu gets the broadcast version.

If you want it Uncut, you're going to have to buy the BDs or wait until it hits Netflix.

I actually have the BDs, the streaming was mostly for convenience. What a complete waste of money.
I guess the question I should ask is how to tell if I'm getting unaltered product.

Look at the rating. TV 14 is broadcast version. TV MA is uncut. Netflix has the TV MA version. I see Vudu and FandangoNow have the TV 14 version.

Anyone know if some or all of The Office will be put behind a paywall when it comes to Peacock? For $30, I might bite if so. Even if not, I might just to upgrade my DVDs to HD. (And I never bought the inferior last couple of seasons.)

Even if they did, the commercials would kill the enjoyment. I deeply regret paying for the commercial included level of Peacock. It's not fun to watch programs that way.

For those interested in "owning" Ash Vs Evil Dead, don't do the $14.99 S1/2 bundle. You can get the individual seasons 1 -3 for $4.99 each separately. That's what I did ... :-P

I ended up buying The Office. While I would prefer no commercials, I don't mind them *too* much if they aren't overbearing. I'm on the basic, ad-ful tier on Hulu. (It's included with my Spotify Premium subscription.) However, in case Peacock does lock the show down, I don't want to subscribe to yet another streaming service just to watch it.

I noticed the same thing with Hannibal. If purchased separately, all three seasons are much cheaper than the complete series bundle that's on sale. BTW Ash vs. Evil Dead is D2D. Just sayin'.
