Unfortunately, no. That is one of Alan's biggest complaints about the service.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

It's my BIGGEST complaint and the reason why I don't subscribe to it. I actually don't think I'd mind the auto playing trailers that much but there were many complaints about that and it's good Netflix finally did something about them. I have no tolerance for any intentional intrusions on content- I tolerated the not so great picture quality Netflix had when they started, which was mostly due to technical limitations, much more than having the end of a movie ruined intentionally by some asshole who has no concept of an uninterrupted viewing experience. Streaming can be customized to the user's taste more than many mediums, but the way it's headed it may end up as annoying as cable, which I gave up on over 25 years ago. Hopefully enough people will vote with their wallets and those in charge will listen a bit more, and if not at least others will come out with hacks.

For those with a VPN, you can stream Uncut Gems on Netflix now. They show it as a Netflix exclusive.

Netflix has blocked usage of most VPN's.

They have detectors that figure out if you have a VPN. I have a lifetime subscription to VPN Unlimited and Netflix blocks it.

Why do you need a VPN to stream Uncut Gems? Is it not available in the U.S.?

No. Just a theatrical release at present in the US.

Wow. Chalk one up for Canada. It's almost exclusively the other way around.

Yeah, Netflix occasionally does distribution overseas. They did the same thing with Annihilation (outside of US, Canada and China), The Hitman's Bodyguard (Japan), Isn't it Romantic and a couple others.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

So they can block VPNs? So if everything really does go digital, there won't be any way around region blocking? Great.

Of course there will be, just like there is today. We just can't discuss such things on this forum.

Re: Netflix - News & Discussion

Your 4K and HD streams may be downgraded to SD. The EU Commissioner is urging Netflix to downgrade streams to ease the strain on the net due to the Virus crisis.

Yep, it was bound to happen. They should just charge everyone for 480p and run only that until this is all over with. I guess physical media will win this one.

The streaming downgrade will actually go into effect in the EU

I won’t be surprised if this goes worldwide in some form or another, unless this ends sooner. I’ve been prepping our breakfast room to school our kids. Got another Roku for it.

What is a breakfast room? You mean the dining room?

Nope, we use our dining room for the kids play area. The breakfast room. The one connected to the kitchen.

You live in LA. Makes total sense you wouldn’t be familiar with it. I live out in suburbia, where the house plans flow wide.

I've lived in suburbia for most of my 40 years and never once heard of a breakfast room.

Well a 40 year old house wouldn’t have one I guess. It’s all the rage now.

It's usually referred to as a breakfast nook.

(or am I thinking of something else?)
