Re: The Roku Thread
Took some tinkering between settings on TV and receiver, but finally got it to work. I think there was a power off/on sequence in there too. But, my TV & Roku remotes will now change the volume on the receiver. I get 2 HUD on TV, one from the TV volume, and one from the Receiver volume.
It started off because I wanted sound to go through my receiver when I Chromecasted to my TV with built in Chromecast.
But, I have another TV (no receiver) that even though the Roku is plugged in the ARC it will only power on the TV when I activate the Roku with the Roku remote. Can't get the volume to work on there with the Roku remote.

Roku to launch low-cost versions of its soundbar and subwoofer under Walmart’s onn brand
In September, Roku debuted two new devices, including the Smart Soundbar and Wireless Subwoofer, both at $180 each. The idea was to complement the existing Roku wireless speakers, in the case of the subwoofer, or offer an alternative for those who didn’t own a Roku TV or didn’t have enough space to set up the wireless speakers, in the case of the soundbar.
The Walmart onn-branded Smart Soundbar and Wireless Subwoofer, meanwhile, will only cost $129 each.
Similar to Roku’s flagship models, onn Roku Smart Soundbar offers support for Dolby Audio, streaming from Bluetooth devices and connects to the TV via HDMI-ARC or HDMI and Optical. However, it will ship with Roku’s simpler IR remote, offering TV power and channel button shortcuts instead of the more powerful voice remote that comes with the $180 version.
It also features 40W of peak power versus the Roku Smart Soundbar’s 60W and different drivers.
The onn Roku Wireless Subwoofer is designed to work with the onn Roku Smart Soundbar to offer customers a deeper, richer bass. The lower-cost version features a 10″ driver like the Roku Wireless Subwoofer, but it’s slightly smaller and features 150 peak watts of power versus the Roku Wireless Subwoofer’s 250 peak watts of power.

Netflix ends support for some older Roku players on December 1st
Netflix has warned that it's ending support for some of Roku's oldest players after December 1st, including the Roku HD, HD-XR, SD, XD and XDS as well as the NetGear-branded XD and XDS. You should get an alert if you're affected, but Cord Cutters News added that a simple feature check will do before then. If your Netflix app can't auto-play the next episode in a series, you'll have to move on.
This wasn't surprising when Roku itself warned in 2015 that it would stop updating players made in May 2011 or earlier. These are vintage boxes that stopped receiving new material a long time ago.

I have been having problems with the YouTube app on my Roku stick. I keep getting error messages that say YouTube is unavailable right now. I have to close the app and reopen it to play videos again. Anyone else having this problem or is it just me?

It only happens maybe 2-3 times a day. But I use Youtube a lot. So maybe I'm just noticing it more than normal viewers.
I also had problems with their website the past 2-3 days. Sometimes it wouldn't load and would go to a Google error page.

Had the same thing happen yesterday evening on my Roku Ultra. Doesn't happen too often but have seen it a couple times. Also noticed one video prior to the issue had fine audio but the video ws just a solid green. I exited the video and reselected it with same results. I finally gave up and others played fine.

For the past week or so, I've been having Youtube problems on my TCL Roku TV. In the middle of a video I'll get a message that Youtube is unavailable and it asks if I want to exit or cancel. I hit cancel, and it starts playing again in a few seconds. I've also had a few buffering problems.

My Roku autoupdates. I suppose I'm on the latest version. I'll check when I get home tonight.

Yeah I have a feeling these errors are update related. I've had issues with the youtube app and the Sesame Street app saying they're not available.

Anyone see or can comment on the STIRR channel? The description shows:Watch free TV channels on your Roku device. STIRR shouts to all kinds of people with a little bit of something for everyone --
LIVE local news, TV series, LIVE sports, movies, the latest viral videos and much more.
What’s the catch? There aren’t any! No hidden strings (or cords).
STIRR includes an exclusive new local channel featuring live news and programming based on where you live.
STIRR is FREE TV, your way. Watch when you want and how you want. Download the STIRR app. today.
When adding the channel you can select from major cities in various parts of the USAand wonder if it will be targeted like others offering local channels for streaming. I picked Washington, DC but haven't really looked at the selection yet.

Re: The Roku Thread
It's owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group. So it's a legit streaming service.
I selected West Palm Beach which is the only choice for South Florida. It gives me WPEC CBS-12 local news (owned by Sinclair). It looks like I can watch the latest newscast, individual stories, and the Weathercast. It's all ad-supported.
It's very similar to Pluto TV. A lot of free movie/TV channels in various genres. Many of the same channels I see on Pluto. They also offer free on demand movies and TV shows.

Re: The Roku Thread
Yes sir.
My son loves it. It doesn't do full shows but it does the clips, songs, learning bits, and others produced stuff for the show. But between the Roku app, HBO, and Youtube, Sesame Street is always easy to find.

Anyone still having the YouTube is unavailable error? I noticed that my YouTube app and Roku software had updated. I watched a bunch of videos yesterday and got the error twice. It seems to happen less often now, but it's still happening for me.

Re: The Roku Thread
I still have an occasional Youtube unavailable error. I also have a problem with Vudu. It's taking a long time to load.
It might be firmware related. I'm on 9.2.6. It says the last update was about 2 weeks ago.

So, because Disney+ Support has not been announced or confirmed for our new 65-inch Samsung Smart QLED, the wife gave me a $20 gift card and a discount scratcher of up to 50% to buy a new Roku Ultra this weekend at the local Navy Exchange.

Re: The Roku Thread
I never had a problem with a Roku unit until last night. I was watching a Youtube video and my three year old Roku stick made a popping sound and the screen went black. The Roku rebooted and would only stay on the boot up screen. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, but that didn't work. I googled my problem and found out it could be a power supply problem. I replaced the power supply with the power supply from my Kindle and it's working now. I'm planning on getting a new Roku on Black Friday. I just need this one to keep running until I get my new one.

I've not been seeing the YouTube not available errors lately but for a couple of days noticed sound just stopping. It seemed to be on the MotorTrend channel (just after my trial ended and I spent the $$) and all sound was out and I had to reboot my Ultra. Then shortly afterward it happened again on a different App. I can't recall if Hulu or perhaps Amazon Prime video. On that one, I paused the video and pondered if I should reboot but it came back in about 30 seconds after hearing a few pops and the like. In the meantime, I changed the HDMI port and used a different cable just in case. I hope it's not an indication of a player going bad as I don't want to spend the $$ for a new one. Last evening all was well so fingers crossed.

Re: The Roku Thread
I think my Roku is dying now. Swapping out the power supply worked for about a day. It was back on the boot screen yesterday afternoon and today when I got home from work. Power cycling it gets working for again, but I think I'm going to uninstall it until I get a new one. I have a Samsung blu-ray player, but it won't play Hulu or Disney Plus. So no Hulu in the living room (where I do most of my tv watching until Black Friday....).

how could a game on a video game console completely unrelated to the device cause it problems?
