Does anyone here own the Roku Ultra?

I saw in the Target BF ad coming up that it's going to be on sale for $50.

I still have the Roku 3 and aside from 4K, I was wondering if it's a significant upgrade and worth it?

I'm also interested in this question. I see it's listed as a "quad-core" and dual-band wireless—or use the Ethernet port for wired streaming on the Roku site but wonder if there are any specs on memory if that's important?

Accordingly to this Roku Wikipedia page (scroll down to almost the bottom) there is 1 GB of Ram. Looks like only the Roku 4 had more memory.

The new Locast channel allows viewers to watch local broadcast networks for free on the Roku. But it's only available in these cities:

New York
Chicago
Philadelphia
Boston
Houston
Dallas
Denver

Rifftrax now has a channel. When you log-in it synchronizes all your purchases (takes awhile I hear).

I upgraded after my 3 started crashing fairly frequently. The Ultra is identical but performs a lot better -- zero sluggishness in anything. But I can't tell if the sluggishness I started having on my 3 was part of its eventual downfall or if it was an actual performance issue on the hardware.

Cool, thanks for posting about this. I live north of Fort Worth and usually get decent OTA reception on an antenna, but not always. I checked this Locast out last night on my Roku and it worked well, though the picture was noticeably softer than the picture from my antenna.

Thanks....I'm using a Express + but don't need the Composite. Bought because of BF price a year or so ago. It's always seemed to have issues with YouTube channel and a couple others. Think I'll give Ultra a try this season. Think the 21st is when Walmart starts their BF sale on this.

Re: The Roku Thread

Not sure if this is the most appropriate thread but has anyone else noticed some of the "lesser" channels showing the same commercials back to back during the same break? I added the Beaver Cleaver TV channel a few months ago and will occasionally binge watch the episodes. I realize it's ad-supported but the last few days they show 6 commercials at a break (odd break times also) and 4 of the 6 ads were the same one on some sort of repeat loop. I have nothing against Ben Bridge Jewelers but come on.

Keep an eye on the ads on the main menu. Duracell is giving away $4.99 credits to Fandango Now. They send the credit code to the email address on your Roku account.

Does Mobdro(Amazon Fire) have a Leave It to Beaver Channel?

I think MeTV runs Leave It to Beaver in the mornings(weekdays). I also think it is streamed live (for free). Don't think it's available on Roku(not sure).

I have MeTV as one of those alternate channels with Spectrum(ch. 200 in my area).

Managed to get the $4.99 credit from the Duracell Ad on Roku.

Used it to buy The Meg 4K UHD for $10. That will hold me over until the actual disc drops a lot in price.

They got rid of Plugins. That sucks.

Check out the Plex Forum. People are pissed.

Looks like you can still access Plex Plugins using the Roku Media Player app.

Roku Media Player > Video > Plex Media Server > Video > Video Channels

Well shit. I only use that every day to watch CW and CBS.

That does work. Lots of clicks to get there and loads a little slower, but it works. Also no fast forward or rewind.

Yeah I'm not happy about it either. I really only used the plugins on Plex (same, CW & CBS). And I play my security camera videos through it. At least I knew it was coming, just didn't think it would be this soon.
But, I deleted it and installed Emby. No plugins there (that I want), but take that Plex! ;)
Tried the work around, and yup it's there for now. I'm not going to update my Windows Plex server.

I just heard about this Roku channel, similar to Locast, but very limited availability ( Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area and Phoenix residents only).

Also app on Apple Store, Google Play, or Amazon for Fire TV, or website:

Watch TCM is finally available on the Roku.

https://channelstore.roku.com/details/258944/watch-tcm
http://www.tcm.com/watchtcm

They have almost everything that's recently aired on TCM. The movies are uncut and commercial free. They include the hosted intros, and some have special features.

The movies are available for a week. There's about 100 movies listed. And you need to register with a cable/satellite provider.

Yeah. It's taken a lot of work to get where I want. I don't use any plugins, so that hasn't affected me, but the rest of the layout is awful.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Roku complaints thread is now their longest one: https://forums.plex.tv/t/roku-update/342450/

Nevermind, the 2nd longest. The first is about the RARFlix alternative app for it.

They did do a "Hey, we're listening and working on it." post: https://forums.plex.tv/t/feedback-fr...release/346749
