Grabbed a Roku3, primarily for Plex and streaming my local media. Only other thing I've added is Netflix. Not much more to say, it works well.

My family bought 3 of the Roku SEs that were on sale on Black Friday and I set them up last week. All 3 were working great so far. I have one on an old Sony tube tv and it was working fine. I'm very pleased to have gotten 3 boxes for $75.

What's up with the ESPN app on Roku .. it has been constantly crashing the past week ... crappy timing during bowl season

Uninstall/reinstall? It's working fine here.

edit - i just recieved confirmation that 5.1 does not work on the Roku. this is their response over Facebook:

I do apologize about that sir. Our team is working with Adobe on a fix for the Dolby 5.1 surround sound issue you are experiencing. We want everyone to have a great HBO NOW experience and will make sure to keep you posted with any new developments. Thank you for your patience. ^Frank

i'm unsure when this was fixed but the Roku 3 is now able to broadcast HBO Now in 5.1 sound :)

Do any of you have trouble with the HULU app on your roku boxes? It's really slow and freezes up on me fairly often. I have the problem on my Roku HD and Roku SE.

I'll assume you've checked for a firmware update? I just bought my first Roku 3 and set it up yesterday and signed up for Hulu Plus. No issues so far with using it.

Both my boxes auto update. They check for updates around 3am every morning. Maybe it runs smoother on the newer interfaces....

I've got a Roku 3, firmware updated, and lately I've noticed freezing and loading issues with HULU, too. No idea what the issue is because everything is up-to-date and my wireless speeds shouldn't be a problem.

Is Hulu the only one freezing? I'd try re-installing that app.

But yeah I have a Roku 3, no issues with Hulu here.

Crackle went all crackers for me; it forced me to reboot. I'll try removing and reinstalling to see if it works.

I haven't been able to get Crackle to work ever since they started that autoplay crap. No big loss. I never watched Crackle much anyways.

I haven't had any major problems with Hulu. Occasionally, the menu might slow down or choke a little. But I haven't had any playback problems.

Re: The Roku Thread

I love my TCL Roku TV. I'm looking forward to seeing their 4K and HDR models.

The first 4K Roku TV is coming, courtesy of TCL

Chinese brand TCL will ship the first Roku TVs in spring 2016 that support 4K streaming. They'll deliver all of the numerous 4K apps found on the Roku 4 box, including the 4K versions of Netflix, Amazon Video, YouTube, Vudu, M-Go and UltraFlix, as well as the 4K Spotlight Channel with its curated collection of 4K content (which currently excludes Netflix).

Two series of Roku 4K TVs will be available, the US5800 and the UP130. The step-up UP130 will incorporate the same kind of fancy remote control as found on the Roku 4, complete with voice search, a headphone jack and the unique remote finder function, while the US5800 will ship with the standard Roku TV remote.

The sets will come in 43-, 50-, 55- and 65-inch sizes, and will start shipping this spring. Pricing was not officially announced, but a TCL rep told me the 55-inch model in the US5800 series should cost less than $600 at retail.

-----------------------------------

HDR Roku TVs coming too

Similar to the 4K reference design Roku announced last year, the company says, "Roku is also releasing the Roku TV HDR reference design for TV partners to incorporate HDR technology into future 4K UHD Roku TV models. TCL will be an initial TV partner to integrate the Roku TV HDR reference design."

Roku says the design will include support for both Dolby Vision and HDR 10, the two principal HDR standards.

HDR, which stands for High Dynamic Range, is expected to be a major theme for TV makers at CES this year. It's a catch-all term for new, improved content, namely TV shows and movies, and the televisions that can display it. The most concise pitch I've heard is, "Not just more pixels, but better pixels," an implicit improvement on mere 4K resolution.

hanshotfirst1138 01-15-16 11:21 PM

Don't. It was expensive.

Is Google Play the only one that does that? Plus I'm pretty sure Google made the app.
