Roku Lineup Set for Big Black Friday Discounts
By Angela Moscaritolo

That includes Roku set-top boxes, streaming sticks, and HDTVs.

Looking for a deal on a new streaming media player this Black Friday weekend? Roku has you covered.

The company is knocking $20 off the price of the Roku 3 with voice search this Black Friday weekend, bringing it down to just $79.99. If that's still too pricey for your liking, you can snag the small, portable Roku Streaming Stick for $39.99, or $10 off its normal price.

Earlier this month, Roku also unveiled a new, special-edition streaming box that will be available in "limited supply" for Black Friday weekend online and at select retailers. The Roku SE has a suggested price of $49.99, but will be slashed to just $25 for the most hyped shopping event of the year, making it the cheapest Roku player ever, the company said.

These deals will be available beginning this Wednesday, Nov. 25 online and in stores from retailers nationwide.

You'll also find deals on a number of Roku TV models this weekend, including a 32-inch TCL Roku TV for $125 and a 55-inch TCL Roku TV for $348 from select retailers, including Walmart, online and in stores.

As an added bonus, those who purchase and activate a Roku player or Roku TV model between now and Jan. 16 will be able to snag some content offers from Hulu, CinemaNow, Showtime, and other streaming services valued at up to $100. That includes three free months of the Hulu Limited Commercials Plan, three free HD movie rentals from CinemaNow, and a one-month free trial of Showtime.

Meanwhile, Roku isn't the only company getting ready for Black Friday. Best Buy, GameStop, Walmart, Staples, and Target have all announced details of their 2015 Black Friday promotions.

So I'm getting fed up with my Blu Ray player's clunky, never updated streaming apps, switching between it and the Xbox 360 because one device has access to a service the other doesn't, and missing out many other channels/apps. A Roku purchase is imminent.

Anyone heard any rumblings of Black Friday discounts, specifically for the Roku 3? Right now it looks like going directly through Roku will net the biggest deal, depending on how much shipping is. I'm hoping Amazon will at least match them.

I've done a Hulu trial in the past, but I'm hoping I can also do one with the limited commercial tier. (I guess I can always use a new email/different credit card if it won't let me.)

MTV has been added to the Roku Channel Store.

Looks like it's only shows, I couldn't find any music stuff. They have some complete seasons, and current episodes the day after it airs. It's all FREE, but you'll need to sign-in with a TV provider to get full access.

Maybe eventually that VH1 will stream music videos on Roku but that probably will never happen because it make's too much common sense.

Does SciFy Channel have a streaming Roku Channel?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you? FUNimation has an awesome Roku channel.

You aren't misunderstanding me, I'm just a moron because I'm thinking of Chromecast. I worked a Black Friday shift, and brainpower is running dangerously low.

Any thoughts on what the best app is for playing files from a usb drive on a Roku 3? Is Roku Media Player the way to go?

If you're looking for music videos and none of the other crap MTV airs, have you checked out the free Flashback 80's channel?

Another alternative is subscribing to one of the youtube playlists that specialize in MTV videos from certain years or decades.

Anyone heard any news about when Max Go channel will be added? Doesn't HBO own Cinemax? If so it's seems really silly that they have taken this long without adding it .

Cinemax or Roku's choice?

It just doesn't make sense to me.

Cinemax. It's available on Android, iOS, and Website. And that's it. No Xbox, no PS4, no Roku, etc;

Yeah the cool thing about youtube is if your really into a particular band or genre at a certain time you can really get into a playlist rabbithole and find a ton of music that way.

Food Network, Travel Channel and HGTV were just added.

https://channelstore.roku.com/detail...h-food-network
https://channelstore.roku.com/detail...travel-channel
https://channelstore.roku.com/details/75619/watch-hgtv

There are live streams for each channel, and tons of full length episodes. And some old series like Samantha Brown's Great Weekends and Good Eats. Looks like most of the content requires sign-in with a TV provider.

USA Network was just added.

A couple shows have full seasons like Mr Robot, Satisfaction and Dig. There's also a few movies.

I tried searching thread and internet and cannot find a list of free channels on Roku. I am a cord cutter, so have NO cable or tv subscription and know there are some channels like history and A&e i wouldn't get. i see PBS would be included but i am not finding anything else clearly stated. i must be a total internet newb to be unable to find this.

Is there a listing somewhere of what you can get for free, omitting channels that would come with existing cable subscription.

thanks for pointing me in a direction so i can figure out if this roku thing is worth my getting.

You may want at least one paid subscription to get much use out of it. There is free content, but I don't know where to find a listing. The History Channel has some free content, some requires verification (cable account); that's how I watch the Vikings, free. Crackle has free movies and older TV shows, but a lot of ads. YouTube has (some) free content. Livestream sells "vanity streaming" to anybody who wants to. Much is terrible, but the Detroit Symphony Orchestra uses it and offers some great free programs. TuneIn Radio, lets you listen to a number of radio stations that stream over internet. Those are free ones I use and like.

There are several other free sources which either didn't sound good, or weren't good (to my tastes). I joined Amazon Prime for the streaming content as well as two day shipping. You don't need them all, but you may want to pay for one of Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, etc.

Almost every Cable/TV channel app has free content. Signing-in with a TV provider gives you access to more content. I think the only one that requires signing-in is the Disney Channel apps. None of the Cable/TV channel apps give you full access without a TV provider (except PBS).

There's tons of free content on the Roku. But almost everything that's free is filled with commercials. Often the ad breaks are awkwardly placed (in the middle of a scene) and they show the same commercials over and over. I rarely watch anything on the free channels.

If you're going to get a Roku, I would recommend spending $20/month and subscribing to Netflix ($8) and Hulu ad-free ($12). Without at least one premium service, you'll probably be disappointed.
