It will be interesting the initial lineup. We will see how serious the partnership will be.

I wish they'd get some of the old Disney live-action catalog. Stuff like Toby Tyler, Candleshoe, The Happiest Millionaire, etc.

It sounds like Starz has the first rights to The Force Awakens because it was released in 2015. Netflix gets first rights to movies released after January 1st 2016.

Re: The OFFICIAL Noteworthy New Arrivals to Netflix Thread

Another big blow to the Netflix movie catalog. They're losing the Miramax library on June 1st. Hopefully Amazon or Hulu will pick it up. Here's a list on what's expiring:

http://expiringonnetflix.blogspot.co...31-movies.html

The Netflix Library is About to Decrease Over 10% with 600 Titles Disappearing June 1st

There’s no doubt that as Netflix focuses more on original titles, their overall library continues to shrink. Make note of June 1st though, as over 600 titles are about to be removed as one of Netflix’s biggest contracts is ending.

Miramax and Netflix signed a five year deal in 2011, and as the calendar turns this month, that deal is set to expire. That deal includes over 600 movies that all now show that they’re expiring on their Netflix profiles.

Netflix could work out a deal to renew this deal, right? It’s not uncommon for expiration dates to appear on titles only to have Netflix work out a last minute deal with rights’ holders to keep the titles streaming. Unfortunately, though, this is becoming less and less common as the service focuses more on their original content library.

Netflix Content Chief Ted Sarandos spoke candidly about these massive contracts with Deadline, and mentioned that Netflix isn’t nearly as interested as it once was with single-region deals. In other words, if a library of movies is only available in specific countries, Netflix, now a global company, will likely not bid on the deal. Netflix has expressed that they want to focus on creating a unified experience no matter a subscriber’s location. The only way to make this possible will be through the actual ownership of the content or bidding on global distribution, an extremely expensive and complicated contract.

“What I’m really excited about is our original films that we’re producing. The ability to buy the pay-TV window worldwide like we did with The Big Short, so that movie will be available with a slightly accelerated window, but available the same time around the world,” said Sarandos.

So in the short term, Netflix subscribers can expect to see their library continue to shrink. Netflix has reportedly worked out individual deals for some of their most popular Miramax films, but there’s no doubt subscribers will be upset that a lot of these titles are disappearing. But this could be short term pain in exchange for Netflix developing itself into its next version.

Extract and The Grifters have been in my queue ever since I joined Netflix a few years ago. Guess I better finally watch them.

Wife and I are getting ready to binge watch over the long weekend. We've been waiting for this since I saw it was coming out a few weeks ago. We loved season 1.
Got the nachos, popcorn, ice cream, drinks ready....and put the scale away for a few days.

Netflix “Refreshes” Deal With Miramax For Library Titles

Netflix has renewed its deal with Miramax to keep some of its 700-plus title library within their streaming service. Netflix said that some titles are staying put and others falling out but they would not release the number of titles they are keeping.

---------------------

With the Miramax library, Netflix keeps hold of such titles as Pulp Fiction, Good Will Hunting, Shakespeare In Love, No Country For Old Men and The English Patient as well as Life Is Beautiful, Amelie, The Crying Game, Strictly Ballroom, My Left Foot and Cinema Paradiso (to name only a few).

Re: The OFFICIAL Noteworthy New Arrivals to Netflix Thread

An old Bob Ross series is coming to Netflix.

Story Here

The show we’ve all been waiting for has finally made it’s way to Netflix. It’s possibly the single most relaxing television show ever in existence, and we now have access to it whenever we want. Get excited, because Bob Ross is back.

In case you need a refresher, Bob Ross made a name for himself with his show The Joy of Painting, which aired on PBS from 1983 to 1994. Ross’s soft spoken voice and his incredible painting skills made for the most calming TV experience one could ever hope for in the ’80s and ’90s. Not to mention his trademark curly hair that made him instantly recognizable.

But just so everyone’s clear on what to expect — Netflix isn’t streaming The Joy of Painting, but rather Beauty Is Everywhere, a series that was filmed in 1991 a few years before Ross died of Lymphoma at age 52. The format is nearly identical to the original show, the only difference is, you probably haven’t seen any of these 25 episodes.

Netflix is promoting the show with the completely accurate tagline, “His teachings are eternal. His hair is immovable. He is Bob Ross.”

Wow, I didn't realize he died at 52. Good on Netflix for bringing something from him to us.

According the AV Club piece about this, Beauty Is Everywhere just consists of repackaged episodes of The Joy of Painting from seasons 20, 21, and 22. Still, it's great to have him on Netflix. (Though I only found out a few minutes ago that Hulu has a few seasons of The Joy of Painting. And I already knew about his stuff being put on YouTube a while back.)

Usually on my nights off I throw on an episode of MST3K as I go to bed - a comfort viewing practice of mine spanning many years - but last night I put on good ol' Bob Ross. Within minutes his dulcet tones and the sounds of his brushes hitting the canvas happily swept me away to dreamland. And then the Muzak-y end credits song played, which compared to the rest of the show was like a Slayer concert held in a smoke alarm testing facility, and I was jolted awake. Next time I'll have to set my tablet on a sleep timer.

Netflix getting into the half-foreign feel good comedy genre:

Goes up this Friday. Netflix is really bad at cutting trailers for their movies.
