They use drop spots, vacant (but still passable) houses. There are people who do this for a living. They are not stupid, but they don't bother trying to crack databases anymore. It is easier to dumpster dive or "social engineer" a password.

My parents had there CC # stolen. It was one they never used and the one time my mom did use it was on Amazon to buy me somthing I wanted. The CC people finally called to ask if they had been using it only after $15,000 dollars had been charged to it. Is that dumb or what?

That is some funny stuff. He probably did all the orders themselves and is trying to get a refund on them by making up this whole story

I had a buddy in college that received a credit card in the mail...A VISA dont remember what bank...

Anyways he called to activate it when he received it and the people said it was already activated and had 5,000 dollars charged on it.

They verified it was him calling and cancelled the card and got rid of the balances.

Decent people like myself would never make up a story like this. Perhaps someday when you get scammed so hard that your bank account is dried up then perhaps you will show a little more sympathy for me. I called my bank and they are reviewing the charges because items order are all going to France except for my 2 orders from Amazon.com.

The frickin idiots at Amazon.com wrote me the following email in response to my emails inquiring about the fraudalent charges. They basically dodged all my questions regarding compensation, what are they going to do to nailed the SOB who made the order, what security policy they have in place to prevent theft of CC, and a simple apologetic email. NOOOOO...they went out of their way, bend over backward and sent the follow pathetic email to a loyal patron who had made numerous legit purchases from their Amazon.com website.

Amazon email response:

Thanks for writing to Amazon.com with your question.

Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.co.jp, and Amazon.com are
separate and independent sites. Items ordered through these sites
will be sent from distribution centers in the U.K., Germany, France,
Japan, and the U.S., respectively; we cannot transfer orders from one
country's web site to another.

I hope this information helps. For further information, please visit
their help pages at the following URL:

You can also e-mail them directly at [email protected].

Please feel free to write again if you have any further questions or
concerns. Thank you for shopping at Amazon!

Best regards,

Willis P.

I emailed [email protected] and got a "NON-DELIVERABLE" from my postmaster. I am US citizen who does not speak or write frickin FRENCH...yet they want me to visit their Amazon France's helpdesk.

That was the lamest reply e-mail I've ever seen; it doesn't look like it even remotely addresses the issues you've been talking about. I feel your pain... as if it's not enough to have credit card/billing problems, they annoy you further with a form letter that doesn't even apply to your situation. Call 'em up and speak to a human being... maybe you'll get more luck.

That's the other problem...where do you find a phone # for the company? I have looked at their website both France and USA and can not find a phone #. Anyone, please help if you have phone # to Amazon.com and and Amazon.fr. Thank you.

I will give that number a shot...won't hurt if it does not work. I have filed an affidavit for the illegal charges and will be receiving a new card, but my bank has not mentioned whether I will be credited or not.
