Entertainment Weekly also had layoffs today because the print edition is going under. I saw one of their editors say that today was her last day.

The writing was on the wall when they switched from weekly to monthly print editions in 2019. I've been a subscriber for over 20 years and I'll really miss my print editions. I kept about 50 issues with unique and interesting covers.

I'm surprised there are so many magazines left. Visiting Barnes and Noble bookstores, admittedly more rarely done, I still see hundreds and hundreds and rack after rack of magazines. Most of which have cover prices of $10 and above! It's shocking that any of them survive.
The only print magazine I still subscribe to is 2600: The Hacker's quarterly, which I have continuously since its induction in 1984. Even so, I'm pretty sure its days are sadly numbered as well.

I use to collect the EW covers that had "24" as the cover story. There were only about four covers and "24" is not on anymore, so it wasn't much of a collection.
I was a subscriber for about 2 years back in 2003 & 2004.

I got it the first year or so it was out- hopefully I still at least have the first issue somewhere. Not wanting to throw them out is the main reason why I don’t get any print magazines, as I’d be swamped with them. They should at least put an archive of the first few years online. Before there was any internet this was the best way to stay on the “inside” of this stuff. Reading their laserdisc reviews showed there were other people like me out there.

I'm guessing no refunds, as they're still producing a digital edition that will probably require subscriptions to access.

Not really surprising, the delay from print pretty much killed EW's "shallow" journalistic content in a world of instant social media gratification. EW was a real fun read back in the day if you enjoyed Hollywood entertainment.
I noticed in the latest Barnes & Noble remodel the magazine section is even smaller than before.

I was able to get a refund for $22. If you still have a paid subscription email them and ask for a refund. [email protected] Include your Billing Address in your email.
The funny thing was they wrote in the email: Due to pre-labeling, you may receive one or two more issues....

They sent me a notice that I would be receiving People instead for the duration of my subscription, or I could request a refund.

Folks, I spent a whopping $10 on my renewal late last year so I can care less about getting a refund but the past couple of years I had to call to renew at $10 vs $50, and would do this around August, but there is no more Ew magazine to auto renew for $50 anymore, Correct? If so, cool. I do not have to contact anyone and will no longer pay for a magazine I was not reading in print anyway.

Yeah, I've been paying 10/year as well. People is the Styrofoam packing peanuts of magazines, but it's not worth it to jump through any hoops to get 4.65 or whatever back.
I got a postcard with the People swap. Sometime last week or the week before, I think. There was no choice of magazine, just 'We're replacing it with People, contact us here if you want a refund instead.'
My wife and I went to Barnes and Noble a month or so ago specifically to buy some magazines (house design/decor stuff). She was shocked at how high the cover price of mags was. I said that's why I subscribe so often, in many cases, for the price of 1-3 issues (or even fewer in some cases), you can get a whole year. There are exceptions - it's tough to find a really good deal on The Week or some of the 'digest' mags - but others, it's just short of them paying you to get it. I still really like magazines though I don't save them, I toss them in the recycle once I've read them. I'm probably subbed to 12 or 15 now.

I ended up getting my refund check for $22. It wasn't much of a hassle. I just had to email them and give them my billing address and they sent a check in a mail.
