Re: The complaining about Amazon thread

^That would suck.

As we are currently having a postal strike, all my Amazon deliveries have been handled by their own service. I actually can't think of the last Amazon time my orders weren't delivered by Amazon, regardless of the strike.

I'd also add that all my deliveries, as of late, have been at least a day early.

I didn’t give-in to many Black Friday deals on Amazon, but here is how they shipped one of them:
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...ebfae9953.jpeg
Just slap a label on the item and throw it in a truck, really Amazon?

Re: Amazon: Blu-ray discounts and deals mega-thread

They do that for a lot of stuff now. Unfortunately, you have to make sure you look for and check the dropdown during checkout that says to put the stuff in Amazon packaging.

Wow.

I would contend that that is NOT “manufacturer packaging” . . . That is retailer shelf display packaging.

If it's in a box then Amazon considers it to be in "manufacturer packaging" no matter how inappropriate or inadequate that box might be for protection during shipment.

I've had a few board games arrive with a shipping sticker slapped on the shrink... Fortunately, there's not yet been any damage on those (they'd go back immediately if there was) and they've not yet done it on any of the games where the manufacturer has switched to sticker circles to seal the box instead of shrink wrap (and I *hate* those stickers!! They *never* come off without box damage of some type even if you do the hair dryer trick. My OCD won't allow them to stay on the box.) I try to pay more attention during checkout now "just in case" and have caught a few, fixing them to "ship in Amazon Packaging" (which is also a crap shoot as it'll likely be one of those thin plastic bags).

Not a complaint but more of an observation:

I ordered some New Balance sneakers a couple of days ago and they arrived in a mailer shrink-wrapped in plastic, They appeared to be brand new. They had all the stickers, the little plastic ring loops, the crumpled paper inside he shoes to keep form, etc. It was the NB red box that was not included. Granted, I paid $54.99 for them, so $60 with sales tax. I noticed when I clicked back to the item the price jumped to $70. I wonder if they're now putting premiums on shoe boxes? I know folks sell empty shoe boxes on eBay but to not have had it shipped from Amazon? First time for everything I suppose.

I Would love to see a class action law suit for these practices (& many more by Amazon)

Frustration-free packaging?

Maybe they just didn't to put them in a mailing box so they just tossed the box and stuck them in a mailer?

It could also be that, with something like shoes that come in a box, they would normally just stick the mailing label onto the box and ship it that way. I've had them do that with small kitchen appliances in the past. But with all of the porch piracy going on, they thought an obvious box of shoes would be a target for theft.

Don't know if it was frustration free. The items I've ordered in FFP usually come in non-descript cardboard boxes. The shoes were shrink wrapped in plastic and put in a grey mailer just like that. First time ever with shoes and I get my shoes from Amazon 98% of the time.

Which sneakers did you get? I’m a NB fan but I don’t know different models from what I normally get and I’m looking for a change.

These:

I also have to get them in Wide. NB are one of the few brands that offer Wide fits.

Ugh. I ordered the original animated The Grinch Who Stole Christmas in UHD from Amazon, and it arrived in one of those 'ready to ship' bags with the green stripe. The shrinkwrap looked and felt off to me, and sure enough, when I opened it up, a DVD from who knows how many years ago was inside. They're sending me a replacement that'll be here in plenty of time for Christmas, but I still have to take this one to Kohl's in the next month.

It's not exactly the same situation, but I got Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as a birthday gift last month, and it arrived with the shrinkwrap removed in one of those 'ready to ship' bags too.

Wasn't sure what you were talking about, so I looked up Amazon Ready to Ship bags and found this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/amazonprime...nions_of_them/

Every time I get one of these packages it has been a used item that they are selling at full price. From larger cooking bowls in larger clear “ready to ship” bags that, yes, still had food and both animal and human hair in it. To head bands that was missing two bands and had human hair to even body shapers that had makeup all over it. Even electrics that was already register to another person. And many more items. All was bought “new” and I paid full price. Most of which I returned.
:yack:

And I didn't think I could hate Amazon more than I did...

I will say one category which usually gets packed in a real shipping box at Amazon - toys. Not sure why everything else is packed poorly.

Yeah I put an order in yesterday and both items were going to ship without Amazon packaging. Now they weren't Christmas presents but I want the extra protection so I clicked that option.

Agreed on that. I am trying to figure out how to wean us off so I can cancel. The problem is, they offer too many services that we use, and it is all for one price. I've long said that I pay for the streaming, and the rest is just bonuses.

Same here. The shipping benefit is shared with my business account so I save a ton on shipping every year. Not a Bezos fan at all but...

Re: Amazon: Blu-ray discounts and deals mega-thread

Same here... I mostly use Prime for "free shipping" - and the occasional "Prime Members Only" sales/discounts but I can't say it's actually worth the monthly expense. My membership expires at the end of this month and it would be a good time to experiment... give me a few months without it to see if I really notice much difference in purchasing habits (after all, $25 minimum for free shipping is often quite easy to hit). I rarely stream, never use the music streaming service (it has a stupidly bad interface - and Spotify free is better with more music available), don't store photos, no "Whole Foods" anywhere close, don't use "delivery services," basically - don't use anything but the "free shipping" and don't like that *I* can't select which delivery service to use making getting timely deliveries a crap shoot. They've been using Amazon trucks more this year - maybe they're finally going to cut the USPS loose (and if they did *that* I'd stay with Prime).

Trevor 12-21-24 09:28 AM

Re: Amazon: Blu-ray discounts and deals mega-thread

I also have been thinking of cutting out Prime. We buy a fair amount on Amazon, and probably would ‘over-buy’ a bit to hit $25 each time.

The free kindle book and 10-20 free PC games every month is kinda nice, but I rarely read/game.

We could easily live without the video service too.

But taken all together, I always end up renewing, so far.

Meathead 12-21-24 09:35 AM

Re: Amazon: Blu-ray discounts and deals mega-thread

Also for the majority of items, I get stuff usually next day (outside of times like holidays/prime days). I have one mega warehouse 20 miles away and another 2 hrs away. Some stuff I can even order as late as 7 or 8pm and have it by 4-8am next day.

I don't watch a ton of stuff on Prime and don't pay the $2.99 but luckily the ads have been only at the start and just a few.

BobO'Link 12-21-24 10:02 AM

Re: Amazon: Blu-ray discounts and deals mega-thread

The "over buy" to get to $25 "free" shipping is what tends to get me sucked back in... It never fails there'll be something "on sale" I want but it's a few $$ under $25... so I add something I might not otherwise purchase *or* would wait for a better price to purchase. It feels like it'd be kind of a wash so I just keep renewing...

I read - but never digitally (can't stand reading on a device - give me paper every time). I do *some* gaming but, to date, have yet to play any of the very many free games I've claimed.

I've never been a Prime subscriber, but I've been considering it for a long time. The free shipping minimum is $35 now, BTW.

Re: Amazon: Blu-ray discounts and deals mega-thread

Whether or not you value Prime enough to join and pay for that service depends upon a few things . If you like the streaming options (Prime, music, audio/e books ) and use it regularly it’s a no brainer.

If you buy a lot of cheaper items on a regular basis then yes, it makes more sense to pay for it instead of having to cobble together orders of $35 each time.

And just convenience, one click and done .

Since this is a physical media site, Amazon rarely has the best price and usually apes off others which is why I rarely buy from them even when they do piggy back on others. And also their fucking search algorithm or methods are awful and a chore to get through, to the point where it’s better off using google instead of the amazon search engine.

Abob Teff 12-23-24 10:35 PM

Re: The complaining about Amazon thread

I have a new Amazon complaint . . . I guess they are building a distribution hub near me.

That is all well and good, but where they are building it is problematic. The road it is actually on is a small (two lanes, barely) residential street that goes between a state highway and a major city thoroughfare. The residential street serves a rural trailer park and a number of private driveways. A little over 20 years ago, Walmart opened a store on this side of town, and that small road became a heavily traveled route for people to get to Walmart (and other businesses) without going through a major part of town. The road was already overused at that point, including foot traffic that it was never designed for. The road has an overpass for the highway, with no shoulders on the overpass. Residents of the trailer park routinely walk and bike this already unsafe route to get to Walmart.

Fed Ex and a garbage hauler also operate facilities on this road. Over the last few years, the Fed Ex drivers, including semis pulling double-trailers, decided to quit going the quarter mile to the major thoroughfare, and started cutting back through the residential area to get to the highway quicker. These semis can barely make the turns onto and off of this already narrow road.

The city is going to "improve" the quarter mile stretch to the major thoroughfare, but not the rest of the road. They need to pass an ordinance banning the commercial traffic from the residential stretch, as this will only get worse with Amazon traffic.

Look up "Bissell Road, Springfield, IL" and take a street view run . . .

All the Boxing Day deals on Amazon Canada are showing the % discount, but not the actual price. You have to click on each item to see the price. Fucking idiots.

Amazon has been going crazy with targeted coupons lately. So someone will post that they have a 30% off coupon but it's only good for people in the midwest or something. Makes tracking deals a ton harder, which I 'm sure is by design.

I got one of those for the complete Jack Ryan 4K Complete Series. It was $60 but with the coupon and sales tax went down to the $40s.

Warning: Amazon

Yesterday, I ordered a cd box set with 1 day delivery. I received an empty, sealed Prime envelope/ I called Amazon. The 1st rep said wrong department & passed my cal to a 2nd rep.She had a very poor command of English. Short version: I requested a replacement & got a refund. The 2nd rep then hung up on me, because i wouldn't leave her positive feedback without confirmation. I called back. A manager told me their system was broken, & a 3 hour gift card refund would take 24 hours. The rep apparently incorrectly stated 3. This is something I really want; I hope they actually do the refund so I can re-order. I have almost 30 minutes into this on the phone; + driving to an Amazon locker in freezing weather. They also wouldn't guarantee that the sale price would still be available tomorrow.

This sort of thing is happening with Amazon much more frequently as of late.

I had a same day delivery delivered today with no issues. It was my first ever Amazon same day delivery. I needed some medical supplies that I couldn't find in stock in any stores in my area, but Amazon had them and delivered them within seven hours of my order. I've always had better luck with online chat than calling on the phone.

I had that empty envelope thing happen a couple months ago as well. I did the online automated chat thing and it asked me if I wanted a refund or a reship. I chose a reship and that one came okay. Annoying, but dealing with it was super easy.
