I have a question I hope somone can answer. I recently returned 2 items today al Wllmart with no reciept and they gave me a gift card with no problem. They did add my liscence info to their computer. Now my question is when I got tomorrow and return something to Best Buy (I really did lose the reciepts) will the take my liscence info and if so will they see I returned something to Walmart? I really did lose the reciepts. I don't want them thinking I'm a crook. Thanks for the help.

Does anybody know how far back Best Buy goes back in determining what price you get for the item? 30 days? 60 days? 90 days? I got a few duplicate TV DVDs that were mass discounted in early November and didn't know what to expect if I returned them there with no receipt.

Best Buy is usually 60 days. I usually take stuff back there every year. Just remember, they only allow 3 returns per calendar year. They track this stuff fairly well, by using your personal information.
For reference, the easiest places to take stuff back are Costco, WalMart and Borders. Target is also relatively easy. CC and Best Buy are getting harder. They are starting to limit the $ value of returns, usually about $50 - $75. So, that's usually only 2-3 movies.

I made my annual trip with returns back to the stores yeaterday. Generally, everything is tightening up.
At Best Buy, they had a gun that they used to read the UPC, it then generated a price tag that could be used in the stores. I had 12 discs. Allgenerated price tags (i.e. were in thier system) but then they had to be verified as being a title stocked by the store. Of the 12, only 3 were eligible for return and some that I thought were pretty mainstream--"King Kong 2 disc SE" and "Young Frankenstein" were not. I took the remaining 9 to another Best Buy and none of them came up as store stock. (Last year I returned about 8 discs only 1 of which not eligible. All disc returned went into store stock if they were part of the master BB database.)
I next tried Target. Their policy is no store credit on unrecipted merchandise can be more than $20 total. They Accepted my "Young Frankenstein", but wouldn't accept my Kong 2 disc because it's shelf price was $22.99. I asked if I could get a $20 GC for it and they said no.
I was able to return the KK disc at Circuit City. The other 7 were not part of regular store stock, same as at Best Buy, so they couldn't be returned. I had to go to 2 CC's. The young female "manager" at the first location refused to even look at the discs without a receipt. The clerk at the other checked each disc and was very pleasant about it.
I don't plan to spend any more energy trying to return the other 7 titles. I'll probably just auction them off on eBay.

I just got back from Borders and it was easy sailing as per usual. The girl took a little longer than I would have liked in looking up the titles on the in-store computer, but I was able to get another gift card and I didn't have to show any ID. There were a couple of other receiptless returners at the registers next to me!

Our local BB had a no big "no returns without receipt" sign up. I didn't even try. I returned the 3 probable BB discs to Walmart along with a few crappy Xmas DVDs that came from I dunno where...for a Walmart GC. 6 discs returned with no hassle. I'm not a huge fan of the mart so I don't mind being sneaky to them. Thanks Walmart!

Are 3 titles too many to return to Borders at once? Two are extremely popular 2-disc DVDs and the other is a popular and relatively inexpensive boxset. All show up as being "available" at the store.

I should clarify that I was told at Best Buy that they would not take returns without receipts, but that they would do exchanges, as long as you were getting something else in the store. They just wouldn't give a refund if you didn't have it.

Anyone know if I can return something to walmart that is listed as "online only" on their website? I ask because they have free site to store shipping. My La Femme Nikita Season two needs a new home...

I took back two HD-DVDs to Best Buy yesterday. Was no problem, since that was all I had.

Well, it worked out fine for me, as I wanted to get Call of Duty 4. They let me exchange the extra Ghost Hunters DVDs for that without a problem. It's basically exchanging for credit - you just have to use said credit right there.
