I was referring to purposely buying cheap to return to a different store for a higher price. Are you saying that is ok?

This made me laugh. I see your point, but I think you are taking it a little too far.

Never did that before, though clearly Best Buy selling SFU for $19.99 and Borders giving $59.99 is an easy $40 profit. Not something I would do, but I'm sure others would. Have you been to CheapAssGamer? People do it literally for a living.

Again, couldn't care less. If it was an issue Borders should change their return policy like every other store has to stop it. They don't. Its a loophole and people take advantage of it, just like people here would do the same thing if Amazon priced a new release at $1 and everyone placed and order and got pissed when it got canceled. Of course a good amount would call in and bitch about it though.

sam's club and walmart do share databases. i returned something to sam's, they were able to look it up through my membership, and did the return without a receipt, even though they found a "virtual" copy. it had been about 7 months since i bought it too. i returned some games to a wal-mart the next day, and the transaction from sam's club popped up. they told me i'd only be allowed 3 returns, and i told them that sam's had found the receipt. they said it didn't matter b/c it wasn't a hard copy. i don't think sam's will limit you, b/c they'll try to find your purchase through your membership or they'll just override the 3 returns, that's what i think. i used to work at the returns desk at sam's, and member service is a huge priority. i got shot down at a best buy. i returned a couple things on new year's eve 2006 and tried probably 12-26 or 12-27 of 2007 and after putting in my driver's license info, i got shot down. oh well, you win some, you lose some. after reading this thread, i'm going to borders! j/k

Just so I'm clear, the items that everyone have mentioned were all sealed, correct? No one went into Borders with an open item and got a gift card did they?

I tried returning Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (opened item) to Borders and they wouldn't accept nor exchange for the same item even with the receipt. Thought it was odd.

Welcome to the forum! It's got to defintely be sealed(saleable condition). Borders should let you exchange an opened item for the same item if you have a receipt and tell them that that item was defective(they would open the shrinkwrap on the replacement item and send you on your way). There's no way that they would nor should give a gift card for an opened item.

Thanks! I've been a lurker on the forums for a while, might as well become a member!

I asked cause I was under impression people were taking open items and getting GC's or store credit for them. Some members said they took back items that they've own for many months so I assumed they were open. :/

The guy at the register told me he couldn't take back 'Eternal Sunshine' cause it was open and wouldn't exchange it cause its wasn't defective... which it was. He even wouldn't even call the manager when I asked to speak to him/her. Haven't bought anything from that overpriced store since. Very bad experience with Borders. Still have the defective disc too.

That's ridiculous! I would contact Borders and tell them about your bad experience. Hopefully, they will make it right. Here's a link to their online contact form-
