If you cancelled your entire order, I think you should receive the total amount you were charged - how can they reduce the amount for something you did not receive?
The way I read it is that he cancelled part of an order that hadn't shipped yet. You can see google's reason for doing that. For instance, suppose you ordered a $10 DVD with another $45 item, and takes the $20 GCO discount (making your total $35). If you then cancel or return the $45 item and get the full amount refunded, you have essentially *made* $10 in cash *and* got the $10 DVD for free.

Of course, what google did to pepsi guy is still wrong. Ideally, they should prorate their cut of the refund based on your total order (i.e. you buy four $15 items, return or cancel one of them, google should take back $5 of the $15 refund) but that's probably way to complicated for them.

well, my saga continues. I filed my complaints with the BBB and State Attorney General's office. I also shot off some more emails to both Buy.com and Google Checkout, which have gotten less and less politically correct as time goes on.

Today, Buy.com sends back a reply that they have submitted a cancellation request for the last item in my order. WTH? I never asked them to cancel the item. Just credit me back the amount for the item until they can convince themselves that it is "in stock" and actually ship it to me. PER THEIR POLICY.

Anyway, hearing about the other people who didn't get refunded the correct amount, I'm not holding out much hope that this is going to end well.

In my case, one order was $52.81 - $20 GCO = $32.81, the other was $50.41 - $20 GCO = $30.41. Total for both orders = $63.22 charged to my credit card. I kept a $2.95 item from each order ($5.90 total), returned one item from one order and cancelled two items from the other - after the refunds, I was only charged the $5.90 for the items I kept.

So google did deduct the two $20 discounts from your refunded amount. Which is also what they did to pepsiguy's order. Essentially you both paid the correct price for the items you kept. But his kept item was a larger portion of his order.

Pepsiguy, you have a legitimate gripe, but not a huge one. Google gave you the $20 off, and then they took it back when you canceled an item that allowed you to get the $20 off.

I'm not trying to defend buy.com in anyway, in fact, I'm not too fond of buy.com. I've gotten 2 damaged items from them in 2 seperate orders, which didn't please me at all. I recently ordered on the 12th 3 HD-DVD titles, and it shipped on the 13th. What really bugged me was that it was holding in Hebron, KY for 6 full days before it got shipped to me. I finally received my order today in great shape, but I think we fail to realize the situation here: it's Christmas (holiday) time. Everything takes longer to get from point a to point b during the holidays(except 2 day and overnight mail) especially using media mail. Combine that with the fact that millions of people are using buy.com now with the google checkout offer, and you have a big mess.

With that being said, there still is no excuse for their crappy customer service.

I will just report that I placed four orders in the last 7-10 days with GCO (the $20 off $50 deal) through buy.com for:

1. new Bond set #3
2. new Bond set #4
3. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe 4 disc EE
The Devil wears Prada
4. Bugsy EE
The Doors 15th anniversary
The Keep (graphic novel)

I have received them all, no problems at all.

Between me and a few other people I know that have each placed a couple orders in the last few months, I would say 50% of those orders have had damaged items. Mainly books and dvds in these orders, but at least 5 out of 10 have had damaged goods.

Received today the balance of an order I placed on Nov. 22nd. The items were supposed to be Xmas gifts. Since they didn't arrive in time to ship them, I had to go out and spend xtra $$ on gifts I shipped out on Wednesday. Buy.com - the worst!

Placed an order on 12/9 with Buy.com for 2 DVDs and 1 cheap VHS to get over $50. DVDs supposedly shipped on 12/12, and VHS shipped on 12/13. VHS shows up on 12/16. Still no DVDs. Called CS today (only 15 minutes on hold) and got a rep with an Indian accent...although he spoke better English than most. He said he was re-shipping the 2 DVDs and filing a claim for replacement. I was told I'd receive them in 3-5 business days...so much for Christmas gifts...

On another note, I placed an order yesterday for 1 boxset and 1 cd to total more than $50. The cd shipped last night, but today I receive an email saying they cancelled the boxset! Of course, this means that I can't use the CD. I explained it to the CS rep, and he told me to refuse shipment of the CD and I will get a full refund. Let's hope.

Don't think I'll be tempted to do business with BUY.com again anytime soon...

Buy.com appears to have screwed me with their shipping too. I ordered the Half-Life Holiday pack for an Xmas present on the 8th or 9th. According to Buy.com they shipped it on the 10th, but that doesn't seem likely. In the same order I had a DVD which Buy.com says they shipped on the 13th. Last week I got the DVD but even today there is still no sign of the game. All USPS's joke of a tracking system says is that it was spotted in Federal Way, WA on the 20th. I'm in Maine, so unless it's taking a very scenic route I don't see how they mailed it on the 10th.

My Ultimate James Bond Vol.4 is going to be a problem. It arrived a few days ago and I just noticed that the Dr. No case contains 2 copies of disc 2- no movie disc. Ugh. Does it make more sense to contact the studio instead of Buy for the replacement?

I have never had a problem with a buy.com order before or its packaging. But today I received a package with minimal padding and a spindle of DVDs thrown all around the box. So I tried to email buy.com about the problem from their customer service web page and got this back in my email...

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

Very professional.

I have ordered a number of things from buy.com within the past month or so. All have shipped pretty quick and arrived with no problem.

Now I'm just waiting to see how they do with mail-in rebates. I have quite a few I sent in to them, and I'm hoping I don't get screwed!

Anybody else getting trashed DVDs, especially box sets? Buy.com likes to ship things in bubble mailers, which have no crush resistance. Guess what happens to the DVD in transit.

I've also noticed a tendency to cancel the remainder of any GCO discount order if any of its items become backordered, rather than allow you to wait for them to come back in stock. Not coincidentally you lose your GCO discount in the process.

It looks like some are being made with my order. I informed both Buy.com and Google checkout that I had never requested for the final item in my order to be cancelled. Just credit me back the money until they decide to ship. It looks like Buy.com has issued a refund for that outstanding item. As it currently stands, I cannot tell if that last item is still cancelled or not. It doesn't appear to be, but then again, maybe the fact that it says there is going to be a refund implies that it is. In any event, it appears that I got refunded for the full amount of the item + tax/shipping and the GCO discount wasn't impacted.

Does anyone remember when Buy.com gave away 3 free dvds to anyone who signed up on the website? This was years ago when the dotcommers were starting to appear everywhere!

And does anyone remember the Laserdisc debacle? Hundreds of titles, including box sets like the Ray Harryhausen Sinbad Coillection, listed at $1.00 each. The site kept bombing out when you tried to place an order. They wound up giving all who tried ot place an order a free DVD or CD.

Ok

I ordered "Star Wars Trilogy" and my order show that it was shipped on December 13, 2006. I have not received it yet. Should I proceed with mailing in the form to dispute these charges? This order was placed with Google. What must I do now to proceed with fraud charges against Google and Buy.com?? Any help is appreciated.

Ugh. Buy.com sent me the wrong DVD and now I have to wait for them to receive the return before they send me the correct item. What kind of messed up policy is that? My purchase is paid for and I was supposed to receive my DVD last month. And I just wasted a week trying to get support via their webpage and e-mail; their replies were boilerplate and didn't specifically address my own correspondence. I finally managed to get through their phone line and had to ask to speak to a supervisor twice before I got someone actually capable of listening and understanding instead of providing a canned response.

Buy.com is pulling another fast one on me. I signed up for the buy.com visa card months ago before I knew what a joke the company was, and they give you two $15 off coupons. I was trying to use the second $15 off coupon a month ago or so and it wasn’t working. So I email them a few times and they tell me to just place an order and then email them and they will adjust it. Well, I received the book weeks ago, emailed them, several times, and they are just ignoring me.

So funny.
