I do hope that helps. After talking to them, they really didn't care that I had confirmations showing different amounts--hence the cancallation and aggravation (another customer friendly feature--the phone rep, who is supposedly online support, is unable to cancel web purchases directly).

habers 11-05-02 08:54 PM

so people who have talkes to CSR's recently, have they been saying that they are shipping them and charging us full price?

No I would not. If they had an in-store sale, I'd buy them, but I no longer trust their online wing--who's to say they wouldn't ship those $5 DVDs for $40, then tell you that if you didn't like it, you could pay to ship them back...
If you have a Disney Store near you, all DisneyStore.com merchandise can be returned to any Disney Store location. For DVDs and Videos you must have a packing slip and the DVD or movie cannot be open. If the CM there gives you a hard time about refunding shipping, ask to speak to a manager and calmly explain the situation. There is a way for them to refund your shipping to you.

Trust is a very important part of online shopping, and they've lost any trust I had for them. This from a company that used to be considered a model of good customer service.
I think we've lost sight of what someone had said previously. The original poster of this "deal" did not specify that it was linked to the "Holiday Magic Cards." While it's not very good business practices to "change the rules" after the cards have been printed and distributed, it is Disney's sole discretion to administer the discount using those cards in any manner they see fit. They even have the right to discontinue the cards at any time even before the expiration date. They are the ones that are taking the hit from the discount.

Should Disney's software have been set up to not allow more than one discount use per account? Yeah, probably, but then people would have started creating more than one account and abusing the coupon over and over again.

Should Disney feel obligated to honor at least one order from everyone who initially used the coupon? No, it was to be used in conjunction with the "Holiday Magic Card." Call me crazy, but even if I use some kind of coupon over the phone when I call to place an order I still save that coupon until I either receive my order, or the deal has expired to be sure that for some reason it won't be needed again if I inquire about my order. (I'm sure there are even some people that had thought about using the card both online and in the store, so that would have been another "incentive" to not throw the card away.)

All in all, I don't think you can fault Disney for this. People in general (NOT directed to anyone in particular) are going to find any way they can to get money out of large corporations like Disney. (I've seen it happen when I worked the "front lines" at Disney in the past. I've since moved on to other parts of the company.) They are only trying to cover their butts.

Ginwen 11-06-02 08:36 AM

I disagree. The thing I can fault Disney for is that I authorized a charge to my card for a specific amount (15.13). They had a way to get ahold of me (since they had my email), but elected to charge a different amount (31.46, so they taxed me on the higher amount, too) without contacting me.

I don't really care about them deciding not to honor the card (or changing the rules), but they needed to notify me, or just cancel the order (how hard would it have been to send an email about the rules having changed, and the shipment was pending pending my authorization). And how is anyone, whether they have the card or not, going to be happy when they realize they were billed a larger amount than they agreed to, and now have to send in the card (if they have it) and wait on Disney for a rebate.

Greg,

I agree with you. I'm not pissed that they aren't honoring this deal but the fact they were planning on just charging my card a higher price without notifying me. I just got off the phone with a CSR and she told me they were going to charge me $32 for a Disney Tin!!! Price mistakes happen all the time and it's at the company's discretion whether they honor it or not but in no way does the company have the right to charge you more than you agreed to without notifying you.

$5.95 for shipping, what a joke.

TnK4God 11-06-02 09:05 AM

I myself read about this deal and had no idea that it was for a card. I was under the understanding that disney just released a discount code for a short period of time. This is not unusual, there are alot of companies that do that around the holidays to move stock and generate buisness. I placed a few orders and authorized them at a certian amount.

Now that I know what the deal is with the cards, I do not mind disney canceling my orders, but I would like to be notified about it. The orders I placed are gifts, and will need to be replaced.

But to have the company that I have supported for so many years just charge me a different price is not the thing for them to do. When you register at the site they have all the info they need to contact you. I am only asking for an e-mail or phone call...heck even snail mail would be OK. But if they do charge the full amount I will fight this and the many thousands of dollars I spend on disney every year will find a new home.

I'm very disappointed that they decided to charge people a higher amount without first alerting people by e-mail that they will need to send the card in to get the discount.

Since I don't want to deal with this I called a CSR and cancelled my order. Does anyone know if there is a still chance that the order might ship if this cancelation doesn't go through?

duofold 11-06-02 10:43 AM

Anyone know or receive any official policy for those that placed orders using the HOLIDAY promotion? I've placed 4 orders (all for myself and my family - and no, I didn't believe this required any 'morals' since coupon codes are posted everyday on the internet, i.e., dvdpricesearch/bargainflix, plus Disney recently had a $10 all dvd's in store promotion - these reasons combined led me to believe that the promotion code was valid and available to everyone) - all of my orders on my order page include the $15 off code.

Additionally, checking the credit cards that I used for these transactions, I see that the 'correct' amounts have been reserved, or those amounts that reflect the discount. However, there has been no official charge yet.

One last effect that Disney must take into consideration...if Disney ultimately decides to charge the full amount and not honor the original receipt with the discount, some people might face OVER-THE-LIMIT charges when they don't account for the higher charges. For example, when one is led to believe that he/she has $7 left in their balance and buy A Bug's Life for $6.44, everything seems fine. However, if Disney decides to charge the full amount of ~$22.00 for A Bug's Life on his/her credit card, the card will incur an OVER-THE-LIMIT fee.

This aggravating inconveniece will really upset the populace. Hopefully Disney recognizes this.

Finally, throughout the order process, I was never instructed to mail in any coupon. I see that there are instructions do to so, but these were never stated to me during the transactions. The following were the instruction found in my 'Thank You for your Order' from Disney:

Quantity Item Price Item Description
-------- ----- ------- -------------------------------------------
1 21690 14.99 ''A Bug's Life'' DVD

Subtotal: $ 14.99
Discount: $ 14.99
Total Gift Box: $ 0.00
Total Shipping & Handling: $ 5.95
Estimated Sales Tax: $ 0.49
Grand Total Amount: $ 6.44

"If any of your order information is incorrect or you have questions, please
contact us at [email protected] or call 1-800-328-0368. To
help us provide you the best service, please include your Order Number and
billing address on all correspondence."

Per their message, I don't see anything 'INCORRECT' with the invoice that they sent me - it accurately reflects the application of the discount. As a result, I don't feel ANY need to contact Disney.

Come to think of it, now I will definitely NOT cancel my order. I have all of my emails. As the invoice states, the GRAND TOTAL is clearly listed, without any instruction to mail in any coupon. If Disney charges differently, I will be relentless in my complaints and Disney will forever be tarnished in my mind.

djones6746 11-06-02 11:20 AM

Disney does not have a leg to stand on. The only thing they can do is cancel the orders. If they try and charge the consumer more than what was originally authorized when you clicked the submit button....all you need to do is call your credit card company should Disney refuse to credit part of the overcharge.

djones6746 11-06-02 11:31 AM

Not really sure why people here are so worried about them overcharging for the order. I am actually looking forward to them attempting to overcharge my credit card. My credit card company is not going to give a rat's arse that Disney screwed up here. They are going to back me when I show them my email with the total amount owed which will match the amount that was authorized at the time of purchase. I hope Disney does try and overcharge me. The only thing Disney can do with these orders is to cancel them altogether.

nice choice, I picked that one too :)

For some reason I dont feel that disney is going to ship these out? I feel as though they are just gonna hold the orders till we call in :(

chanster 11-06-02 11:39 AM

Yes, I agree. If Disney ships out at full price, I will get my DVD and call the credit card company and get it at the cheaper price. Not a big deal..

Just read on another board that cnet news.com is investigating this, maybe some help with this mess is on the way.

Hi all:

This is Troy Wolverton. I am a reporter at CNET News.com. I'm following up on the posts in this thread about Disney charging full price on orders placed using the "HOLIDAY" gift certificate.

If you placed an order with Disney using the Holiday GC but Disney has charged you the full price, please contact me. You can reach me at [email protected].

Thanks!

Troy

I just got the Disney catalogue for this month. Is the Holiday card supposed to be in it somewhere? Where would it be?

I doubt it's in there, but maybe I'm missing it. Thanks.

why should i? apparently theyve NEVER had anything in the past i cared about and they finally did...and look what happens.

besides, how do i know they wont do it again for 5 bucks?

and thirdly, why on earth would they even bother selling dvds for 5 bucks when they saw what happened to more expensive dvds?

im done with disney.

The "Holiday Magic Card" was only given to people who had orders that shipped in the past that had their purchases meet a specific dollar amount. I believe the amount was purchases over $65. One card per transaction, per person.

djones6746 11-06-02 04:28 PM

I have spent thousands of dollars at Disney over the last decade...the least they could do would be to honor my purchase. One purchase alone totaled $2000.00. Disney can go stick up their arses!!! -rolleyes-

We hit the news!!!

http://news.com.com/2100-1017-964831.html?tag=fd_top

duofold 11-06-02 07:15 PM

"Disney does not plan to charge full price to customers who used the coupon code before it placed the notice on its site asking them to send in their gift certificates, Gladowski said. But those customers who placed their orders after Disney posted the notice will be charged full price, she said. Disney will refund the amount of the coupon after it receives the coupon from them, she said."

So, the key question: When/what time did Disney place a notice on its website asking customers to send in their GC's?

kmac2878 11-06-02 07:20 PM

That's me - I'm now famous! LOL

"In an e-mail message to CNET News.com, one Disney customer said the company had changed the price on an order he placed for a collector's edition DVD of Fantasia, taking away the discount after shipping it.

"Disney has now altered the agreed upon price and decided to charge me more without my consent," the customer said. "

i think around Nov/02/2002 9:30 PM EST...I may be wrong though

SLOmade 11-06-02 07:29 PM

Well...I placed my order friday evening. I called Disney and they said that my order was on hold. I wish, like others have been saying, that they would just charge me full price and send them, since I have all the necessary documents to adjust the charge with my CC co.

duofold 11-06-02 07:53 PM

habers,

sounds like you're about right...I found the following in the CNET article:

"On Saturday, the company stopped automatically accepting the coupon online and started notifying customers that to use the gift certificate, they would have to mail it to the company after placing their order."

So, all those who ordered on Friday and sometime into Saturday should have their orders shipped at the price initially agreed upon.
