The dead Disney thread

Anyone who ordered more than one should cancel all but one. But then again, if you ordered more than one, you probably don't really care about such trivialities as ethics. Still, you have to wonder if its worth the risk of all those non-refundable shipping charges :).

Thunderforge 11-02-02 09:39 PM

Wow! Who killed the other thread? I was in mid-post. Oh well, all I was going to say is...

I'd be very disappointed in Disney if they backed out on the orders already placed, but if they do I sure hope they offer a way to cancel my order via e-mail instead of having to call them.

I don't ever see them just charging the higher price, but they may decide it's too low of a margin on too many items, but I'd be surprised.

Then again maybe their systems will have a glitch like Holiday Inn did and multiply all the bills by 100.

Thunderforge 11-02-02 09:41 PM

FYI... The store is closed again too.

DVDKrayzie 11-02-02 09:41 PM

so it's okay to rip off a company as long as you only do it once? The coupon clearly said one per order so if you made 2 orders with 2 coupons then you played by the rules. If your argument is that it's unethical to use the coupon more than once since you didn't have the physical one, then you should not even have made the first one.

I'm hoping I get my orders, if they try to charge full price then I'll just dispute them since it's far more unethical to charge more than the agreed upon price than using a coupon more than once, when it didn't say otherwise. BofA is great with disputes and gives you the money back within 24 hours

Thunderforge 11-02-02 09:43 PM

While I agree too much of a good thing can throw up flags, how is it any different than someone going to Wal-Mart and having multiple items rung up as seperate orders to use multiples of the same coupon?

Manzana 11-02-02 09:46 PM

Some people did not know the coupon code was one-time use only. Sure, some could guess it might have been intended that way, but even with the discount the deal was worse than the Disney Store $10 sale a while ago which was not limited to 1 per customer. Their web page even said "one coupon per order" when checking out with this coupon. If it had said "one coupon per user, household, or address" then it would've been much clearer.

I don't see why the previous thread had to be killed. The deal was over so there was no harm letting it continue, in my opinion, just so people know what ends up happening.

That's obviously correct, by interpreting the letter of the law, but this isn't what Disney had in mind. Otherwise, there wouldn't be all of this drama... :)

Thunderforge 11-02-02 09:49 PM

Well I guess only time will tell on how they handle it.

The Store is back up.

Autotelik 11-02-02 09:49 PM

I put in an order for Toy Story last night, and I've been gone for half the day.... so what's going on with this coupon?

DVD DVD DVD 11-02-02 09:49 PM

The ethical lesson here is that if we all limited our greed to just 1 purchase, more forumites would have been able to get into the deal, and the DVD stock wouldn't have been depleted so fast, and disney would have let this go on much longer.

Greed kills all good deals. And now people are trying to rationalize greed. And yes, no sane person can possibly place 15 orders, unless he/she is trying to sell them through ebay for profit.

neiname 11-02-02 09:51 PM

What happened?

DVD DVD DVD 11-02-02 09:51 PM

I motion all concerned parties here to boycott all disney DVD titles on ebay for the next month, just to teach those guys a lesson.

CRM114 11-02-02 09:52 PM

I agree with DVD DVD DVD. We get a good deal here every week. No need to go overboard.

Thunderforge 11-02-02 09:52 PM

It's not rationalizing greed. I know I bought a couple items as gifts for my wife and kids. How is it greed for me to use their promotion in the manner they posted on their site?

Autotelik: to summarize (since someone felt they should delete the old thread) Disney shut down the HOLIDAY discount code and there are mixed messages as to how they are going to handle the orders already placed.

Apparently this code was tied to a discount card given out in the past at the Disney stores.

This reminds me of what happened with the E.T. dvd when it first came out. Some nutcase bought up all 35 copies of the wide screen version at my local k-mart.

Go figure.

tradingjoe 11-02-02 09:56 PM

And I for one, am very likely the worst outcome of such an encounter. I was a brand new customer looking for more items for Christmas. Now I may very likely be an anti-customer. If you people that placed 30 or 40 orders really have 30 or 40 coupons then I have to agree with you in some regard.... by all means, take your chances and mail them in. But if not and you want to keep spinning the wheel, just accept that someday (maybe even today) things may not go as planned.

As for DVD DVD DVD.... a very good idea. I will support it.

i see nothing wrong with that at all

I really don't see Disney cancelling our orders. After all, they're not losing money on this for the most part, since our order totals are still above cost...and it's Disney themselves, they're the ones freaking printing these discs for a few $ each.

I think it'd be more detrimental for them to take the time and screw people who have already placed orders and to get bad publicity for it than to just let all orders that went through ship out.

I mean $11.82 is a nice price for Lilo & Stitch, but it's only really a few dollars less than what it will be in stores in December. I think it benefits them. And I still don't see anywhere on their website that says it was discontinued due to online abuse. The change indicates that they only want to continue this promotion for people who have the coupon card, but I still think this doesn't work out too badly for them.

Thunderforge 11-02-02 09:57 PM

Heck the majority of my order was clothing. They don't have much of a selection in adult sizes in the store.

tupacwe 11-02-02 09:58 PM

I ordered 2 - American Legends and Mulan, should I cancel my sencond order (Mulan)? Is there any chance I will get both of these with the discount? If it matters I ordered Legends on the phone and Mulan on the web. So my question is do I keep both orders or do I need to cancel one? Thanks!

You don't have to cancel anything, IMO.

It is a shame the old thread is dead... it was getting interesting... The code actually came off of a physical coupon that was suppossed to be mailed to be redeemed.

It wasn't supposed to be mailed to be redeemed AFAIK. Disney has since changed it so that it needs to be mailed to be redeemed, but I don't think that was ever supposed to be how it was done.

Thunderforge 11-02-02 10:13 PM

I don't even remember the original post mentioning it came from a discount card. Did just miss it?
