Amazon.com goldbox?

Does anybody know anything about this goldbox at amazon.com? Is everybody getting the same offer or are these customer specific? I got an offer for a camera, binoculars, and a CD player. Nothing I really want. I guess I will check back after 24 hours.

I signed in with 2 different accounts and got different items except for 1 (a rice cooker). I might be wrong but my guess is they have a certain number of items, and then randomly pick from that when you click. Most of the prices weren't that great (15-40% off) anyway.

Lots of repeats, looks like a limited selection.

An occasional good deal (I GOT a three cup rice cooker), but definitely hit or miss.

I just noticed this for the first time five minutes ago. Nothing I wanted, seems like a neat feature though. How often do we get new offers in our gold box?

mostly kitchen/appliance type items i've seen.

no dvds or books so far....

I want a good camera offer.

So what of the comments on the DVDTalk homepage about people seeing incredible DVD deals in their goldbox?

All I've seen in mine thus far are for kitchen-type stuff. And I don't care how good they are, or how good a deal Amazon is offering me, I can't imagine spending $25 on a pair of scissors.

I signed in. I haven't bought anything from them since December.
Does it only work at a certain time each day?

I know everyone is getting different things in their goldbox, but 3 out of the 5 items in mine were digital and normal cameras. One was even a telescope. If I knew anything about photography I might have bought one, but they were all really expensive even with the super-duper discount...

That's what I was wondering too! One of them (Vanilla Sky for $5.70) is at the beginning of this thread. I keep clicking on the Gold Box, hoping to find a great deal on a DVD, but all that comes up is a bunch of stuff I have no interest in.

I just clicked on today's Gold Box, and the 5th offer that came up was the Harry Potter DVD, for $12.79. And it's even the widescreen edition! I already have it, anyway. But I'm glad a DVD finally came up; I was beginning to get discouraged!

I finally got two DVDs --- Vanilla Sky at $5.40, Oceans 11 at a cheaper, but not really great price.

The only way I think I'd buy Vanilla Sky would be if it was that cheap, so I'm kinda hoping it pops into mine. But all I got was wine glasses and a George Foreman grill. I've never bought anything from their kitchen store. In fact, the only thing I've bought that wasn't a book, CD, DVD, or video game was my DVD player. Oh well.

The box was there yesterday when I made a purchase but was empty. I went back this morning to see if there were any deals and the box is completely gone from my screen. I even tried to link to it thru the dvdtalk front page... empty page. Wot the...

This is driving me nuts! Do they only give you a gold box if you have an established an account??? I bought from them... why aren't they offering anything? Cripes.

Bah. 4 out of my 5 for today were out of stock! What the heck, man? Why make an offer if it's not there? Seems like a poor design.
