Amazon.com goldbox?

Does anybody know anything about this goldbox at amazon.com? Is everybody getting the same offer or are these customer specific? I got an offer for a camera, binoculars, and a CD player. Nothing I really want. I guess I will check back after 24 hours.

I signed in with 2 different accounts and got different items except for 1 (a rice cooker). I might be wrong but my guess is they have a certain number of items, and then randomly pick from that when you click. Most of the prices weren't that great (15-40% off) anyway.

Lots of repeats, looks like a limited selection.

An occasional good deal (I GOT a three cup rice cooker), but definitely hit or miss.

I just noticed this for the first time five minutes ago. Nothing I wanted, seems like a neat feature though. How often do we get new offers in our gold box?

Copenhagen 06-07-02 01:45 AM

Your Gold Box™ offers are currently unavailable.
You can access your Gold Box once every 24 hours. If you've already viewed your daily offers or made a Gold Box purchase, you'll have to wait for your timer to reset before seeing a new set of offers.

There won't be any media related items (CDs, DVDs or Books) in the Goldbox for now.

Check out this CNet article on the Amazon Goldbox:

too bad, because that's what I usually buy from amazon... guess the point is to try to tempt me into other areas.

starri 06-11-02 01:14 PM

So what of the comments on the DVDTalk homepage about people seeing incredible DVD deals in their goldbox?

All I've seen in mine thus far are for kitchen-type stuff. And I don't care how good they are, or how good a deal Amazon is offering me, I can't imagine spending $25 on a pair of scissors.

Quatermass 06-11-02 04:21 PM

I don't see no damn gold box.
I signed in. I haven't bought anything from them since December.
Does it only work at a certain time each day?

I know everyone is getting different things in their goldbox, but 3 out of the 5 items in mine were digital and normal cameras. One was even a telescope. If I knew anything about photography I might have bought one, but they were all really expensive even with the super-duper discount...

That's what I was wondering too! One of them (Vanilla Sky for $5.70) is at the beginning of this thread. I keep clicking on the Gold Box, hoping to find a great deal on a DVD, but all that comes up is a bunch of stuff I have no interest in. :(

I just clicked on today's Gold Box, and the 5th offer that came up was the Harry Potter DVD, for $12.79. And it's even the widescreen edition! :D I already have it, anyway. But I'm glad a DVD finally came up; I was beginning to get discouraged!

All I get are cameras, pagers, and portable cd players. All crap that I don't need.

Seeker 06-11-02 11:16 PM

I finally got two DVDs --- Vanilla Sky at $5.40, Oceans 11 at a cheaper, but not really great price.

starri 06-11-02 11:44 PM

The only way I think I'd buy Vanilla Sky would be if it was that cheap, so I'm kinda hoping it pops into mine. But all I got was wine glasses and a George Foreman grill. I've never bought anything from their kitchen store. In fact, the only thing I've bought that wasn't a book, CD, DVD, or video game was my DVD player. Oh well.

I still havent seen a goldbox yet

goofee girl 06-12-02 07:52 AM

The box was there yesterday when I made a purchase but was empty. I went back this morning to see if there were any deals and the box is completely gone from my screen. I even tried to link to it thru the dvdtalk front page... empty page. Wot the... :hscratch:

It's discrimination!!

I just checked it again - still no gold box. Bastards!

goofee girl 06-12-02 10:09 AM

This is driving me nuts! Do they only give you a gold box if you have an established an account??? I bought from them... why aren't they offering anything? Cripes.

jhansla 06-12-02 10:29 AM

just checked on amazon and no gold box. Strange cause i had one a couple of days ago

Otto 06-12-02 11:27 AM

Bah. 4 out of my 5 for today were out of stock! What the heck, man? Why make an offer if it's not there? Seems like a poor design.

RewindTheMovie 06-12-02 12:46 PM

/me has no gold box either ;(

renaldow 06-12-02 01:47 PM

I had a goldbox the first day, nothing since then though.

Venusian 06-12-02 08:50 PM
