2008: The Dark Knight
2010: Inception
2012: The Dark Knight Rises
2014: Interstellar
2017: Dunkirk
2020: Tenet
2023: Oppenheimer

David Fincher filmography:

Alien 3 (1992)
Se7en (1995)
The Game (1997)
Fight Club (1999)
Panic Room (2002)
Zodiac (2007)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)
The Social Network (2010)
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
Gone Girl (2014)
Mank (2020)
The Killer (2023)

TV or online series work:
House of Cards (2013) - directed 2 episodes

Both have directed the same amount of feature films, and are similiar… with both releasing a film last year... I think a poll was justified.

No preference. I like a few of the movies from each.

Two of my favorite directors. Both are better than Uwe Boll.

Even Uwe Boll would do another take after witnessing whatshername's death scene in The Dark Knight Rises.

Nolan is the better filmmaker/director but Fincher is much better at picking entertaining scripts. So I went with Fincher. This was super close for me since I love several Nolan films. If only Nolan had landed with The Dark Knight Rises, that might have pushed me to pick him.

Following > Alien 3
Seven > Memento
The Game > Insomnia
Fight Club > Batman Begins
The
Prestige > Panic Room
Zodiac > The Dark Knight
Inception > Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Social Network > The Dark Knight Rises
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo > Interstellar
Dunkirk > Gone Girl
Tenet/Mank tie.
Oppenheimer > The Killer.

best film vs best film.

Zodiac > Oppenheimer

6 for Fincher. 5 for Nolan. 1 tie. And Fincher has made the best film.

Fincher by a slight margin I guess. Although I like both quite a bit.

Hold on, let me check the other four Nolan vs. Fincher threads I posted in….

Turns out I enjoy both directors quite a bit. Nolan seems to get the edge for me though.

Maybe off subject but I heard Nolan prefers that his movies open on or near July 21.

I think Fincher’s become really hit or miss after Zodiac.

Nolan's track record of last 6 films is 3 great ones, 1 very good one, 1 good one and 1 bad one.

My choice isn't there... I don't particularly care for the films from either of these guys. Maybe 1 or 2 from Nolan and none, yet, from Fincher.

Re: Do you prefer Christopher Nolan or David Fincher movies?

Since this is the most recent Nolan related thread I figured I'd post this here. Watched through all of his films over the last few months including the most recent 4 which I hadn't seen previously and here's how I'd rank them:

1. Interstellar
2. Oppenheimer
3. The Prestige
4. Insomnia
5. The Dark Knight Rises
6. Inception
7. Memento
8. The Dark Knight
9. Following
10. Tenet
11. Batman Begins
12. Dunkirk

I enjoyed all of them to some level with even the bottom 4 getting a 3 1/2 stars on Letterboxd from me and the top 3 getting a 4 1/2 stars. The Batman trilogy dropped the most on these rewatches.

Yeah, me too. Neither are world beaters though and have plenty of bad entries on their resume. Nolan’s Batman films are terrific and that’s mostly what I like from him. Fincher? Seven is decent, The Game was interesting if a tad preposterous. Fight Club is good but I haven’t seen it in years and don’t care to watch it again. All the rest are crap. Nola’s has a lot of crap too.

They are both OK. That’s it for me.
