SNL 12/09/23 (S49E07) — H: Adam Driver - MG: Olivia Rodrigo

This is Adam's fourth time hosting (he's previously hosted in 2016, 2018, and 2020.

I still laugh every time I watch his Undercover Boss episode with Matt (Kylo Ren). Cracks me up.

Let's see what he does this time around.

Maybe she performs this song which I can see could get on peoples nerves but when I predict a song on SNL a band or musician performs something else.

I’ve only recently become a fan of Olivia. I’ll try to check out her musical performance.

Her performance of Good 4U on her first appearance was fantastic, I'm hoping for something similar tonight.

Why? It's the same joke as the Delicious Dish sketches.

Sure, the joke is the same, but this one added a....visual element.

Liked Rodrigo's performances, second song especially. Would have preferred just a straight-up performance without the theatrics, but the underwear flash made up for it.

belated shout out to heidi gardner bring the sexy in that promo video

Julia Stiles lives in Round Rock TX, same as me, but I've never seen her at the Walmart. It was funny/weird that she was in my Google News feed yesterday, and then she showed up on SNL. But then I saw that the news story was about her being in NYC to appear at a book festival, so there you go.

I liked both musical performances. Not stuff I would seek out to listen to on my own, but I thought OR was really good. She certainly is aware of the camera! I expect the next time she is back will be to host.

I found Driver consistently funny, but nothing jumped out at me as especially strong or weak. I guess that makes for a pretty good show, overall. Next week's better be a home run.

Driver's a good host. I thought the baby on the plane sketch was funny because of him.

Yeah, she was good, and I liked the whole theatrical aspect of the second song, I thought it was pretty cool.

I'm not a big fan of Driver but yeah, he made me laugh in that sketch.

Overall, not a bad show.

Re: SNL 12/09/23 (S49E07) — H: Adam Driver - MG: Olivia Rodrigo

I just finished watching it.

Driver did great. I loved his piano playing monologue.

The “Baby on the Plane” and “Elder PSA” sketches had me rolling.

Glad there was no Do Not Destroy film this week. Last week’s was horrible.

Olivia Rodrigo’s performances were good, but I still fast forwarded through the end of them… and he spot in “Tiny Ass Bags” was funny.

Overall, a good show (sans the horrid cold open).

Yeah, I got that impression too based on the "Tiny Bag" sketch. I mean, if Eilish can do it, no reason Rodrigo can't.

I guess it's the musician in me that wants to see the whole band playing, not just the singer. It's a (mini) concert, not a play or a video.

Cue the Dana Carvey grumpy old man, but this must be an age thing in that I don't see anything remotely amusing about the Please Do Not Destroy guys.

Favorite sketch was the facebook ad. That was so true it's scary.

The baby on the plane was also good.

Olivia Rodrigo is just hot as all fuck and she's also into sploshing!

I also got the impression that Rodrigo's appearance in the Tiny Bag sketch was a tryout to see if she could handle hosting duties as well. I thought she was pretty decent, she has a good sense of live acting in front of a camera, so I wouldn't be surprised to see her as host in the future.

Not a fetish of mine whatsoever, but she did look awfully adorable rolling around in those desserts.

I kinda figured I already would, but I'm definitely buying Guts one of these days.

It was not a bad show.

I do not remember Save the Last Dance but the audience did because of some goofy dance that Chloe Fineman was going to do

I thought Julia Stiles time in the spotlight ended in the early aughts and she is not really a star anymore.

The holiday dinner Beep Beep sketch was probably the highlight for me. I knew where it was going with the first Beep Beep, but still enjoyed it so much, and it ended on a solid exit instead of dragging on.
Nowhere near the greatness of Driver doing the Career Day sketch as the oil tycoon, or the Undercover Boss stuff, though.

Oof, that cold open landed with a thud. Terrible.
Call me juvenile, but I liked the chocolate Santa sketch.

Looking forward to Kate McKinnon next week.

I would not call her a movie star anymore, but look her up on IMDB, she just keeps working and working.

I don't find them funny at all either. It's just a desperate and obvious attempt at trying to recreate what Lonely Island did and it's not working. I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and check out their movie, since I seem to like a lot of former cast member's work outside of SNL more than on the show. It was awful.

Yeah that opening sketch had no teeth and no point. It was like they felt they had to touch on the subject but didn’t want to or didn’t know what they wanted to say.

Very much looking forward to McKinnon.

I haven't watched SNL regularly in . . . a very long time. Had to take a sick day today, so in between naps I watched this episode and the ones with Jason Mamoa and Emma Stone. Much better than it was when I quit watching!

I do find it distracting that the cast is not very diverse. I don't mean skin color or ethnicity, but age and looks. It looks like central casting from the latest mid-budget teen slasher flick where really hot 20- and 30-year olds are supposed to be high schoolers. I can't tell most of them apart.

I will say, I think Jost and Che may be the best Weekend Update anchors in the show's history.

Couldn't believe next season will be 50 . . .

They’re top tier, for sure. I rarely watch any of the sketches anymore, but I’ll always make time to go back and watch all of Weekend Update on Sunday or Monday because those two guys are consistently funny. The characters that come on... not so much.

I don’t know that anyone will ever beat Norm for me personally but he’s an acquired taste. Could see Jost/Che being in contention for the best overall to people. I completely missed the Poehler/Meyers/Fey years and really like all three performers so need to go back and check some of their episodes out someday.
