Spoiler Slippage

I have notices in multiple threads that If I have more than one spoiler next to each other as such:

1.
Spoiler:
as

Spoiler:
such

That every time I go to edit this post the spoilers will add another line of empty space between each other. Probably not a problem with 90% of users but for users of spoilers and lists it is annoying to have to fix every time you edit a post.

Re: Spoiler Slippage

I noticed this with my watch list post for this year's horror challenge. The spoilers didn't have to be back-to-back. Still had a blank line added after both spoilers every time I updated my list.

Yes, this has been a problem for me as well.

Re: Spoiler Slippage

Yep - same here. I noticed this in the SF/Fantasy challenge and chalked it up to the "improved" editor... It's very annoying.

Re: Spoiler Slippage

Ditto for me. Every time I buy a new disc and add the title to my spending tab, I have to go delete two lines per spoilered month above the current one--it puts a blank line in between spoiler tags AND inserts a blank line at the end of each block of spoilered text.

Re: Spoiler Slippage

OK, while this is nominal consolation, it does seem to only add that 1/2 lines. If they are already there, from my tests, it doesn't "stack" the issue. I'll report to tech. It seems to only stack once, not every time.

Re: Spoiler Slippage

In my experience, on successive edits on the same post, the spoiler tag adds an extra newline every time.

I noticed this too when I repeated editing for the horror challenge.

Re: Spoiler Slippage

It looks as if the extra line appearing within a spoiler during each edit has been fixed. Thanks, Joel!

However, I still get an extra line added below (or outside) the spoiler content. Can that be fixed easily as well?

Re: Spoiler Slippage

I'm now getting an extra line added after spoiler content as well as one before spoilered content. This is particularly vexing in the "2020 & Beyond Media Spending Tab" thread, because instead of a new thread with no "slippage" here at the beginning of the year, we now have twelve months of issues that we have to fix on every edit.

Admittedly, this only affects the two of us who are using nested spoilers, and I suppose that it would be possible for the two of us just to put everything from last year in one giant spoiler, but I'd sure rather use nesting as it keeps the main spoiler less cluttered.

If the tech guys can't fix it, I guess that's the way that I'll have to end up configuring the spoiler.

Where is that thread? HD Talk? I'll take a look, but no promises. People across all sites end up using the available tools in ways our devs never imagined! I'm always impressed by the creativity

It's in DVD Talk; it's the fourth stickied thread.

Yes, I'm glad you brought it up. I meant to recently and got sidetracked.

I'm consulting another team I work with on this issue, so hopefully they may be able to shed some light on it.
This is a test post to show them.

Re: Spoiler Slippage

So fwiw, the extra spacing has been happening for quite awhile. Inserting copied text via ‘source’ editing seems to prevent the extra spacing within that text, but extra spacing around and in between spoilers is constant.

Here is a link to my current Challenge list post, where I have everything in 5 separate spoilers, none inside the other. Pretty much every time I make an edit, even just one tiny change in one section, and wether I do the edit via ‘source’ or not, the forum seems to add the extra spacing between every spoiler. I’ve removed hundreds of blank lines this week as I edit this post daily.

Re: Spoiler Slippage

New year, same request: Can we do anything about the added lines before and after spoilers? It's rough for challenge posts when spoilers are used, and it's REALLY rough in the "2020 & Beyond Media Spending Tab" thread in the DVD Talk forum, where the posts are now starting their third year of updates. I've gotten tired of taking out upwards of thirty extra lines every time that I post a new disc that I've bought (which is, unfortunately, far too often), so now I'm just going to take out extra lines at the end of every month, even if it makes my spoilers have inches of blank space between them. Help us, IBJoel--you're our only hope!

Re: Spoiler Slippage

DVDTalk has a somewhat unique case in that 1. most other sites do not have users frequently going back to their posts to edit and 2. most other sites don't even have an unlimited editing window. So this is a "small use case" on one of the smaller sites. It may take some time to fix, if it gets fixed at all.

appreciate the update, but since we’ve been complaining about it for like 5 years we sort of figured it was low priority.
