I see a lot of guys who would love viewing this getting dragged to Eat Pray Love by their ladies.

Why wouldn't they include some female action stars?

All I have to say is that..I've waited for a film like this since I was 4 yrs. old. I'm sure I'll get a taste of what I want. Gimme the sequel. Make it better. Also..this...

I just have a gut feeling an awful lot of people with overinflated expectations are going to be disappointed by this.

Don't worry, Harry Knowles thought it was a "masterpiece" and he is one of the most unbiased reviewers out there.

Depends. Ask yourself these few key questions before venturing to the theater:
- Do you like your blood and gore to be almost entirely comprised of shitty CG?
- Do you like quick-cut, shaky-cam action?
- Are you hoping to see a movie starring Stallone and Jason Statham, with Li co-starring vs. the vaguest pretense of an ensemble picture?
- Are you interested in The Expendables primarily from an "investing in these characters emotionally" standpoint vs. an action movie standpoint?
If the answer to these questions was yes, let me tell you, you're going to be flat-out enthralled by this masterpiece. And there's a genuinely funny four-minute Sly/Arnold/Bruce scene to boot, which at that point, as you can tell, is just icing on the cake.

So basically despite all Stallone's hype about how the 80s were the pinnacle of action movies, he instead delivers a typical 2000s action film with 80s window dressing?

Preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetty much. And even at that, it's not a very good one. You'd be better off renting the ass-kicking Universal Soldier Regeneration, which Dolph and Van Damme are great in, than paying to see this.

Damn. I'm sorry to read that. After the great Rocky Balboa and Rambo (as well as John Rambo, if you saw the director's cut), I had a whole lot of faith that Stallone would deliver.
And, yes, Universal Soldier Regeneration was a great movie that deserves a whole lot of praise.
So, I guess this means we've forever lost Solid Snake PAC.

I'm definitely still seeing it Thursday night, but only because I'll have seen Scott Pilgrim twice by then.

Yeah but the editing and shooting style are inkeeping with 2000s movies. None of that screams 80s. I'll keep that in mind when I see the movie.
