I just got my Dracula 2 disc CD set finally from them with a letter saying they apologize for the misunderstanding.

Now to go through the movie and make sure theres no muddy picture, chapter start pixelations or "sticky" spots.

That's actually wrong. Harris said that the new transfer accurately approximates what was intended to be seen in theaters. He also wrote that many theaters likely showed the film in a form that came close to the original intentions.

However, he did point out that you can't just trust any theatrical presentation to be accurate.

From the screenshots I've seen, you can still see it, just not to the degree you could've in previous home video releases. It's much more subtle in that one shot.

Now, you may argue that the put the effort into an effect that is largely dialed out doesn't make sense to you, but that doesn't mean it's not how it was intended. There have been instances where a director or other members of the film crew have put great effort into creating an effect or part of a scene that is completely superfluous to the final shot. It's called the Hamster Factor.

I read through this entire thread about the pixelation issues. Is the remastered disc #1 now in stores? Is there a way to tell from the cover or disc artwork that its a remastered one? Is Sony still doing the disc replacement program?

Yes, Sony is still doing the disc replacement-- I sent them an email, got a reply with mailing instructions, and got my flawless replacement in about 3 weeks. Here's my email if this helps:

I have just purchased Bram Stoker's Dracula 2 disc Collectors Edition DVD and upon watching it, I have noticed that there is pixelation at the start of each chapter on the DVD.

Also the beginning of chapter 17 does stick in several spots, forcing me to press stop and play several times just to work past it.

Upon searching the internet about this problem, I have found out that others have/had this problem as well and have contacted you about it, and the issue is being resolved.

Who do I contact about sending my disc in for a corrected one?

I watched my copy last night for the first time on my 100" screen and did not notice any of the pixel problems, or any other problems for that matter. I bought mine at Walmart a year ago. Sony must have shipped some of the correct discs at launch and it's hit or miss if people got good copies or not. Just my 2 cents...

I got one at CC last night for $6.99 - I'm obviously hoping it's okay... I have a very sensitive JVC player from 2001. I figure if it doesn't pixelate on that, it should be alright.

So I'm assuming there is no way to tell the fixed versions from the flawed ones just by outer packaging?

was your copy in a digipak or keepcase? That will be the deciding factor for an upgrade for me.

why does it come in keepcase now?

Fry's Electronics was just blowing out the Superbit edition of this for $4.99 this week....crazy. And Best Buy had the 2 disc special edition on sale for Halloween last week for the same price.

At those prices, you could buy both and have 2 widely different transfers, both good in their way.

Yep, the 2 disc digipak SE, with Dracula covering his face with his hands...I love that cover. They had about 15 or so horror titles on sale in a big way that week. I picked up the new Pumpkinhead disc, the unrated DECENT disc and two of the Anchor Bay PHANTASM releases. What a bargain...all at $4.99 each.

was the digipak ever changed to an amaray version? has anybody seen it in an amaray? if it ever came in an amaray did it come with a slipsleeve?

Never seen it in an amaray. I still see it in the digipak, so until that sells out (and there's still a need), I dunno if you'll see it in an amaray.

But, you never know.

The UK disc I have is in a clear amaray case

I picked this up at TARGET for $5 for the extras since I have the Super-bit.
But I like this transfer better.
It doesn't look to bright like the other laserdiscs & dvds of this movie.
Althought the Critierion laserdisc had a nice tintish blue.
