True Blood Season 1 --> May 12th, 2009

TVshowsondvd.com has posted that the first season will be available May 12th on a 5-disc set with an MSRP of $59.99.

Amazon even has it for preorder, but I'm sure the price will come down.

I loved this series. Can't wait to revisit it all on DVD again

Would be interested in this if it gets a Blu-Ray release.
Not so much in the standard release.

I stopped watching the show, hoping to catch up with the video release. Not sure if I want to wait until May, though. Looks like I'll be hitting HBO OnDemand

I'd bang Anna Paquin for a Blu-ray release, but I'll still probably pick up the DVD set anyway. Great season.

Looks like the season 1 DVD will be released just in time for folks to catch up for the start of season 2 (~summer 2009).

I bet this will be released on Blu-ray. HBO hasn't officially announced it yet, so we can at least hope.

Sopranos S6 Pt. 2 is the only HBO release I am aware of that actually released the same day as its DVD counterpart. Of course the insane list price on it didn't help either.

I will absolutely buy True Blood if it gets released on BD, but no DVD as I do not want to double dip a TV season. I've held off on John Adams and Big Love as well, and will wait for Generation Kill next year.

That's produced by Dreamworks (and distributed by Warner), not HBO. True Blood is an HBO produced show, like Six Feet Under and Sopranos.

Sales of both the HD DVD and BD of Sopranos Part I and II were really, really bad (and HBO is to blame for the insane list price on 13 episodes). HBO may sit things out for a while until they feel ready. I'd love to have this show on BD, period, but will not buy the DVD. I'll wait/rent.

This is basically a sought after set to those who adored Lizzie Kaplan (The Cloverfield chick).

Doesn't matter who co-produced it ("True Blood" is produced by Alan Ball's production company, but he's not putting out the DVDs) - Band of Brothers is an "HBO Video" release. All HBO Video releases are distributed by WB.

For that price on DVD? No way, I don't even think to buy the Blue Ray at that price.

I like the show but I'll wait for a lower price.

Re: True Blood Season 1 --> May 12th, 2008

From Dvd Times:
http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=70005

HBO have announced the US DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of True Blood Season 1 on 19th May 2009. From creator and executive producer Alan Ball, True Blood chronicles the backwoods Louisiana town of Bon Temps... where vampires have emerged from the coffin, and no longer need humans for their fix. The series is based on the Sookie Stackhouse book series by Charlaine Harris.

Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) works as a waitress at the rural bar Merlotte's. Though outwardly a typical young woman, she keeps a dangerous secret: she has the ability to hear the thoughts of others. Her situation is further complicated when the bar gets its first vampire patron - 173-year old Bill Compton (Steven Moyer) - and the two outsiders are immediately drawn to each other.

Priced at $59.99 SRP on DVD and $79.98 SRP on Blu-ray Disc, extras include:
SD: Exclusive new bonus features including a vampire “documentary”, True Blood commercials, audio commentaries and much more!
BD: Experience Exclusive New Blu-ray features with True Blood Enhanced Viewing:
Get the dirt on everyone in town with Lafayett
Find out how your favourite vampires were made
Read helpful hints and much more!

I hope this is the same one HBO briefly aired prior to the show. Very entertaining rundown of cinematic "Vampire myths".
