I think this is the major factor. I watch on a 65" Pioneer plasma, and think new 4K remasters on a 2K disc look pretty damn fine.

With its weird limbo status, is there any danger of Blu-ray getting squeezed out and discontinued? I'm not ready to go 4K yet, and hope BD sticks around for the foreseeable future.

You are right about manufacturers not making upgrades. The Pannys are generally regarded as the best 4K players on the market, but those two machines are OLD.

A few months back, I disconnected my surround speakers and reverted to a nice 3.1 system. I don't miss anything.

^ is this a function of the total pie being so small that "boutique UHD nerds" can actually have an impact on weekly numbers?
