Check your dvd player menu, and make sure your on DD not DD pci or something. This is a problem I had of a couple of days, there was sound but not DD.

I have a VSX07TX, if it helps the THX doesn't do very much. So I say forget the THX and make a decision based on the other features of the two receivers.
