The older that he has gotten, the more militant he has become in his stance that song writing is about the lyrics. So in his mind, he did write all of Dark Side.
So this is just a flimsy excuse for Waters to do a DSOTM tour? Not surprising.

I saw the 2022 tour, and it definitely had the feel of a farewell tour. He's going to be 80 in September. How long does he think he can keep trying to screw over Gilmore?

If you want a preview here’s Rogers 2022 take on Comfortably Numb. This song has two lines in it that will regularly make me cry if i’m paying attention at all. When i heard them on this version i felt the same thing i did listening to the rest of the song, nothing.

I don't think there's been any talk of a tour, has there? I think this had more to do with the 50th anniversary of Dark Side and furthering his claim of authorship.

The Wall was a very angry album. That sounds like Comfortably Numb as performed by Enya. Gentle, calming, and toothless.

I have little doubt that an Enya cover of "Comfortably Numb" would be more listenable.

Yeah that version of Comfortably Numb isn’t for me. I’ve heard some stuff by Roger solo that sounds better than that. I half thought about seeing him on tour last year but I was coming off an injury and wasn’t up for traveling much at that point.

Re: Roger Waters' Dark Side of the Moon

I like Pink Floyd from the first album, "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" through "The Endless River" with "The Final Cut" being my least favorite, closely followed by "More" and the albums following "The Final Cut" (which are interesting and mostly sound like PF but not as good as the rest).

I couldn't care less about their politics or Waters creating a personal version of "Dark Side of the Moon."

If the posted reworking of "Comfortably Numb" is any indication of what to expect, I'll avoid it completely as it's a misfire.

This was the opening song for the last tour. I thought it was an interesting way to tackle the song since it's usually an encore song, and it fit in with the general dark tone of the whole show. Not sure anyone would really want to listen to it this way outside of that context.

Yeah realized that last night as I skipped around a fan cam of a show to see if anything else was changed. I can see how’s it’s being used to setup the tone of the show. I still don’t like it or think it’s worth not doing the original arrangement to one of the greatest songs ever recorded (IMO) but it’s not fair to say it’s an indication of what rwDSOTM will be.

Earlier in the thread some people were questioning roger waters because of vicious slander. I don’t want this to turn political which his response is almost totally or even really want to discuss it further myself but feel like his response deserves to be posted in any item or discussion on the matter.

Ouch. That reminds me of when William Shatner does his take on songs.

As a side, I think Money is one of Pink Floyd's worst songs. I made a CD of the Dark Side album without that song back in the day.

Sounds like Waters needs to be hooked back up the respirator.

It's both the title of the song and the answer to the question "Why would you want to ruin your legacy by releasing that dreadful recording?".

While I don't like the song at all, I do kind of like his voice here. If it was in a different song, and used sparingly, I'd be into that style. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album to see if it's all such a radical departure.

I think that is exactly who he is channeling for his new material. The song would fit on Cohen's You Want It Darker album without much fuss.

It's like one of those AI things that are proliferating on Youtube right now.

Leonard Cohen sings Pink Floyd's "Money."

Re: Roger Waters' Dark Side of the Moon

A new documentary about Waters alleges damning emails and interviews proving Roger Waters's overt antisemitism, beyond his criticism of Israel.

Roger Waters accused of repeated antisemitism in new documentary

An investigation into Waters by the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) interviewed those who worked alongside [Waters], who made allegations of repeated derogatory references to Jews.

The CAA has also published emails from Waters where he proposed that an inflatable pig floating above his concerts should be scrawled with an antisemitic slogan. In the emails from 2010 he also suggested “bombing” audiences with confetti in the shape of swastikas, stars of David, dollar signs and other symbols.
.
.
.
Norbert Stachel, Waters’ former saxophonist, alleged several instances where he said Waters displayed anti-Jewish sentiment. He claimed Waters lost his temper on tour in Lebanon after a succession of vegetarian dishes were produced at a restaurant and demanded that waiters “take away the Jew food”.

Stachel also alleged Waters mocked his grandmother who was murdered in the Holocaust, and that a colleague warned him not to react to any comments about Jews if he wanted to keep his job.

The allegations were made in an online documentary by the CAA presented by the veteran Panorama journalist John Ware.

The music producer Bob Ezrin claimed that when he was in England in the 1970s producing the album The Wall, Waters invented a ditty about the band’s agent Bryan Morrison. Ezrin said: “I can’t remember the exact circumstance, but something like you know … the last line of the couplet was ‘cos Morry is a fucking Jew’.”

He added: “Do I think he considers himself to be an antisemite? I’ll bet you dollars for doughnuts he does not and he will be the first person to say: ‘I’m not anti anything, I am in favour of everyone.’

“But as a person with a powerful public platform he has a responsibility to understand that what he does affects other people and so he may not be one but he walks like one, he quacks like one, he swims like one so from my point of view he’s functionally a duck.”

Re: Roger Waters' Dark Side of the Moon

I’d be very interested to hear more specific accounts of the things they’re talking about. Stopped taking the linked article serious when it brought up Waters wearing a nazi like uniform in his performance of the wall as that’s bullshit and undermines anything else they may possible show as anti semetic behavior from Waters.

Re: Roger Waters' Dark Side of the Moon

The thing that gets me about people disingenuously calling out roger waters wearing a nazi like outfit (or the pig or whatever) in the wall is if they seriously thought that waters was an anti semite and that the wall displayed this there would be far FAR more problematic things to bring up.

Heres a verse from Waiting for the Worms from the album

(Waiting) to smash in their windows and kick in their doors
(Waiting) for the final solution to strengthen the strain
(Waiting) to follow the worms
(Waiting) to turn on the showers and fire the ovens
(Waiting) for the queers and the coons and the reds and the Jews
(Waiting) to follow the worms

Now if I was trying to prove someone was an anti semite who said that shit i would lead with those lines. They can’t though because that’s so over the top that it’s clear that he’s singing as a character or to show that a pov is crazy. But someone could just wear a nazi like jacket to wink and nod to people so that’s all they bring up.

Its bullshit.

I don’t think Roger Waters is an anti-semite (definitely an egotistic asshole) but i don’t know the man so all i can do is ask for proof. I will however fight tooth and nail for the integrity of the wall as a piece of art.
