Re: 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

Reading that list I am really surprised that The Smiths, Deep Purple, Steve Miller, Chicago, Cheap Trick and The Cars aren't already in there.

You know that N.W.A. definitely gets in with all the press and the movie this year.

I'd love to hear Morrissey's reaction if The Smiths get in and then is asked to be on stage/perform with his former band mates.

Re: 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

I'm going with Cheap Trick, the J.B.s, N.W.A, and The Smiths.

There was a thing on NPR yesterday (I think) about how Harry Nilsson isn't in, and there's a grassroots campaign by a bunch of musicians to get him inducted. He's a no-brainer and should be a slam dunk. A shoo-in, even.

It will be interesting if Cheap Trick gets in to see if Bun E. Carlos appears with the rest of the band. It would be great if they actually played with him for the show though.

Re: 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

Becoming an Apple employee should automatically remove Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) from qualification.

There's nothing Rock & Roll about that.

Happy to see Yes and Cheap Trick
Wondering when Deep Purple will get over the hump
Confused about Los Lobos being anywhere near this ballot
Still waiting for ELO and Little Feat

Wait, ELO isn't in the HOF? I guess I shouldn't be surprised since the critics have always despised Jeff Lynne. But then again, I never thought KISS would make it in either. But ELO/Jeff does not have the fan base that KISS has.

For me, it's not so much having lots of hits and selling albums. Or even just being around for a long time. But it's asking the question ... did this artist have an impact on the landscape of the genre as a whole. And of that list, I think Cheap Trick influenced rock music more than anyone else.

I don't understand why it's not called the Popular Music Hall of Fame.

Chic? Maybe after Kix, Nu Shooz, and the Insane Clown Posse get in we can think about inducting Chic.

There's a reason why Babe Ruth isn't in the football hall of fame. But of course NWA will get in ... and do it easily.

Its a damn shame bands like Slayer, Motorhead and Iron Maiden aren't even being considered when the fucking Steve Miller Band is.

Re: 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

I hate The Smiths. They were good at what they did, but I always hated what they did.

Having said that here is my list of who I would induct from the list of nominees

DEEP PURPLE
Yes
Steve Miller
Chicago
Cheap Trick

and... THE SMITHS!

Put 'em in The Hall!!

Well, Slayer and Motorhead are on the fringe of being Hall worthy, but Iron Maiden? One of the biggest, most successful (long term) and influential bands of all time? How are they not already in???
