Anyway, it WILL be available in a ton of stores come September. If you're still marginally interested, you'll probably be able to get it locally without too much trouble.
I think shipping should be free when you are charging $25 for a record. Prices are absurd. For instance, Merge Records offers free shipping on all US orders. As it should be. Vinyl cash grab. I love this new trend of releasing albums like Fleetwood Mac "Tusk" and charging $35 for it when you can buy an original copy for $5. Must work though.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Merge Records probably sells more copies of Arcade Fire albums on CD/vinyl than Mondo has sold of any of their own vinyl ever.

I get what you mean about re-releases, but in some cases (like Twin Peaks), the original was long out of print and nearly impossible to track down at a decent price. But yeah... stuff that's still easily available by perusing the used records at a store... re-releases can be a bit silly.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Found a good deal ($300) for the Queen complete studio LPs. Not "cheap", but more than reasonable for a 17-album remastered box set.
Being that The Game was one of the first albums I ever bought when I was a kid, this is a nice way of coming full circle.
(not to mention, half of these albums are some of my all time favorites)

And bouncing off that, and I'm not pointing any fingers at anyone, except for maybe myself, but turns out that

Great price on that Queen set - lowest I've seen. I already have, and am happy with, the copies I have for most of their catalog. Otherwise, would likely have bitten on this too.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Did anyone else get the Beatles Mono box set that Amazon.ca had on sale yesterday for under $100 shipped? $97.59 for me, including shipping.

Sorry, but I'm still blaming you for those Nintendo Power issues being taken offline. I kid, I kid. I definitely should have posted that deal here, I'm sorry.

It's still available for that price now. I wish I could buy it but money is tight at the moment.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

It was, for about twenty minutes, then went back up to $330. Oh well.

20 minutes? oh okay price error then. I've been wanting that set for so long so it sucks still but that isn't much of a window of opportunity there.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Well I'm sure it was longer than that until amazon ran out of stock the first time. Right now, it's just a third party seller at $330, but when it was showing as $96, it was direct from amazon. I'm guessing a handful of people cancelled their orders or Amazon had a bit of extra stock. We could see that orice again if/when amazon restocks.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

The downside is I couldn't buy it even at that absurd price. The upside is my friend did buy it at that price and is giving me his mono copies of Help!, Rubber Soul, and Sgt. Pepper that he had bought separately.

I just wanted to clarify but I never did see where that Queen set was $300. Was it on Amazon?

It was through my cousin who works for Amoeba. He found a seller (new) for me.

Supposedly it happened again yesterday I hear now and I missed it... I guess I'm going to keep the page as a bookmark and check it every so often.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Dumb question:

If someone is selling a "test pressing" on eBay... how do you know it's legit? Are there bootlegs listed as test pressings? In this case, it's in a white sleeve and has a white label, so... ? What are the risks?

An album I'm after is super hard to find, and I came across this... so I'm considering it. I don't necessarily care about having the original artwork, and the retail version is on colored vinyl, while this test pressing is black (which I prefer anyway).

edit: and for what it's worth, if it's real, it would have been pressed in 2000/2001.

Discogs may have some pressing info for test pressings with matrix numbers. If they do you can ask the seller what the matrix info is on their pressing and see if it matches.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

good tip.
Except, unfortunately, Discogs doesn't have the matrix numbers listed, not even for the retail release.

I contacted the ebay seller and he basically said it should sound the same, and he knows it's a REAL test pressing because, "The reason I know is, I put this record out on my record label. "

So... if he's not lying, then... I guess that's pretty cool. But if he is lying, then... that sucks.

Not sure why someone would lie about having a test pressing of this particular record, though. It's not special in the grand scheme of things (not a major band... they had some fleeting commercial success, but it never amounted to much)

I think I'll probably go for it. I've spent $50 on worse things...

edit: did a bit more research, and I'm 99% confident he's legit now.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

For you Stranger Things nerds, Amazon has quietly listed pre-orders for Volume 1 and Volume 2 of the soundtrack/score.

Vol. 1 - Oct 7th - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KA4MVF2/
Vol. 2 - Oct 14th - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KA4MVFM/

A bit pricey, to be sure, but there was speculation that iam8bit might have had the rights to it, in which case this would easily be an $80 (or more) set released a year from now. Luckily, it looks like that's not the case.

Damn. Amazon.ca cancelled my Beatles mono box order. Oh well, guess I'll hang onto the CD box for now.
