I got the white one too. A buddy of mine told me about this one and he actually ended up scoring a yellow one. They made a clear one but those were pressed for the employees of the record label.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Shit. $36? I just painfully paid $70 for the reissue of XTC Skylarking. The box set was $50 and then $20 shipping from the UK. No US distributor. 2LP 45RPM box with inner sleeves using the intended artwork, book, and CD.

I bought that AND English Settlement, but I can understand why people would balk at $36, even for a nice reissue.

Those XTC sets are amazing. And the money goes directly to the band, who has to license their own music every time they do a new release because they don't own it outright, so I felt okay spending more than I normally would on those two releases. They both sound amazing. I just wish they had done hi-res transfers instead of or in addition to the CD, but that's being nit picky.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I ordered the new Bongload Records Beck reissues Monday. Then actually saw them at Waterloo later that night. Had a bunch. Would have thought they'd be in more demand. But I guess there have been so many bootlegs...

It appears to be Mellow Gold and Odelay. They're $35 each and the return policy is priceless:

"Vinyl sales are final, we do not take returns. If a record that you receive appears damaged in shipping, contact us immediately. No returns on warped records for any reason. Some records come with a slight warp due to imperfect presses and distributor storage. This problem is rare and easy to correct. Just place your thumbs on the center of the record and flex the edges in the opposite direction of the warp. Rotate, repeat, test on the turntable. Do this a couple times whenever you play the record and it should fix itself."

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Yeah read some complaints on that policy. Someone emailed them and they walked it back a bit. But yeah what a way to turn people off. It's a weird way to release too. They are only releasing as many as they think they can get mailed out each day. So it's sort of a daily trickle. My buddy hyped me up on it. I really should have just bought them at Waterloo but had no idea they'd be there.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Ordered one of these Castlevania bad boys from Mondo at noon today. Already shipped, even.
(meanwhile, my Ori and the Blind Forest soundtrack from iam8bit, ordered in April, is now delayed until October)

Twin Peaks - Original Score by Angelo Badalamenti

Looks like they've done a big run of these, and the price ($23) seems totally fair to me. That sleeve is going to get damaged easily, though. It's the only thing I don't like about this release.

I pre-ordered Banks' new album called "The Altar." I think she's terrific. Saw her live in SLC and NYE at the obesrvatory a couple of years ago. She's hot, too.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

The Twin Peaks set looks nice but on further reflection I doubt I'd listen to it all that often. I may splurge on the Fire Walk With Me Soundtrack if it's on black vinyl.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I personally don't see how anyone can listen to a score divorced form the visuals it was written to accompany, but to each his/her own.

Word on the street is that FWWM will be out in December, and it'll be on "cherry pie red" vinyl. I'd prefer black in both cases, sure, but that coffee brown is beautiful for what it is. At least it's not a picture disc.

And I disagree with Slop; some soundtracks and scores can absolutely be enjoyed apart from the visual material.

For me it depends entirely on the score. Some scores stand on their own without the accompanying visuals better than others.

That Twin Peaks will be mine.

Yeah, I scratch my head when people rave about picking up a film score on vinyl, but like you say, to each their own.

Fu Manchu's 7" Slow Ride cover single is now available on their store site. There's two options - a red and clear version.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Wilco is selling a Wilco branded Pro-ject turntable with an orange vinyi version of Wilco Schmilco. I ordered the orange vinyl a while ago and now its gone unless you buy the turntable.

We used to listen to the Julee Cruise CD all the time back in college. But I'm assuming thats just a small part of whatever this is...

Edit - Appears to be no Julee Cruise. AND it is sold out apparently.

This is the score, but the addition Cruise's song would have been... smart.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

That's weird. I just put in my cart 5 minutes ago and it said it was sold out.

Well, as usual, the $5 shipping kills my desire to order something that I am just marginally interested in.

Odd to see Joan Cornella's art put on a turntable.

How much did you expect shipping to be? $5 is about as cheap as it gets.

Anyway, it WILL be available in a ton of stores come September. If you're still marginally interested, you'll probably be able to get it locally without too much trouble.
