And my copy of RtJ 3 just came in. This is the 4 LP edition with the instrumentals on the second two discs. The album with lyrics is on semi-transparent gold vinyl, and the instrumental discs are transparent blue vinyl. The instrumentals sound absolutely rad.
Also it's sold out on the RtJ website so jerks are selling it for $200+ on Discogs and ebay. Fuck them.

Dusty!
But seriously, that's awesome. If a company made generic rings like that, I'd buy one... although I'm not sure the tiny motor in the Uturn could handle that much extra weight.
And thanks kefrank for the follow-up. I'll try it out without the slipmat for awhile... do a few A/B tests... and see.

As far as record clamps go, you might consider the Clever Clamp. It relies on spindle grip rather than weight.

Okay, I'm weak and I ordered the Fire Walk With Me soundtrack. I already have the TV show soundtrack and it matches! But now I'm really done buying stuff for a while.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
So I signed up for discogs, only listing my Vinyl that I am getting, my CD collection is way too massive well over 2000.
I need to control myself.. must be strong.
I hit two estate sales over the weekend and found a few gems, I think what I like best about this hobby is discovering "old" music. As much fun as it was to find good shape albums of Bat out of Hell, Slippery When wet and Thriller, I think I enjoyed finding these two gems which sounded great when I cleaned them up:
Artie Shaw Moonglow:
And the Beatles Songbook:
I don't think these have been played in 40 years.
I love that aspect.
For a buck apiece tho, how am I going to control myself?
help...

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I don't even have a want list, I'm just using Discogs for a catalog.
My music range is pretty wide.. so I will grab almost anything to give it a spin.
On a side note, I rummaged through my attic and found two of my old albums of Richard & Linda Thompson (Hokey Pokey and Pour Down like Silver) that were pretty badly warped as I didn't store them properly. One can still play amazingly, the other tho, not so much.
Has anyone had much success in getting albums to unwarp over time?

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I'll give practically anything a spin. I think I need to hit up some estate sales and pick up some jazz and blues... I only have like 2 albums. Need to fix that.
Unwarping... I haven't tried it, but some people swear by putting them in the oven between two pieces of glass. You can find YouTube videos on it. Alternatively, get a good weight, and that can improve things pretty significantly. I still haven't picked up a weight/clamp yet myself, but there's some good suggestions in the last page or so of this thread.

A center weight isn't going to do anything against an edge warp, I can tell you this from experience. There is a device you can buy that gets out warps, but it's not super cheap. Also note I haven't tried this myself, but many folks on the Steve Hoffman Forums swear by it: http://www.vinylflat.com/index.html
I also haven't tried the glass in the oven method, seems risky to me.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Actually... I hear the risk is pretty low if you keep the temperature low enough. Even that VinylFlat thing can be used in an oven, and is basically the same idea as pieces of glass in an oven. My fear is that heating them up can fuck up the grooves somehow, but I guess that's only if you go way too hot.

So I gotta ask, why? And does it have to be special in some way? I ask because of the linked site for a $70 mat.
Even after a year, Im a newbie. So if theres a webiste out there where I should read the basics, let me know!

I ordered it too, but I don't feel very good about myself. Almost $40 shipped is a pretty hefty price tag.
