I once had a record come to me (from the UK) that was so sharp, it didn't just cut through it's inner sleeve, but busted a hole open at the spine of the outer package. And this was a brand new record, still in it's shrink wrap (that was torn on the side). I don't know how they make a vinyl like this, but it was so sharp, it could totally do this:

I keep my discs outside the main jacket precisely for this reason, it's just a shame it happened to all three in the same shipment. Makes me wonder if they got bumped or jostled in some way that caused all three to do that. I emailed Music Direct to ask for next steps. I haven't even opened the individual albums yet in case they say to just return all three.

Meanwhile, these Kinks records sound fantastic! Worth the wait for anyone whose copy still hasn't shipped.

Yeah, these Kinks mono LPs sound like a dream. I've been consistently impressed with the albums I've listened to. And a fine looking set too.

Pink Floyd Animals

The Kink Kontroversy is especially good. You can feel the band's raw energy jumping off the grooves.

I've been liking the Pink Floyd reissues, but I do want to track down a UK original for Animals. I feel like the reissue loses the claustrophobic atmosphere of the original, although "Sheep" has never sounded better.

Goddammit! Did everyone get their Kinks set except for me?

I still haven't gotten a shipping notice. I did order a couple other items with it, but those were in stock, it was the Kinks set that was holding up the order.

Not sure what the deal is with those Kinks albums but all I want is Something Else mono. Doesn't appear to be available separately.

More than that, they need to put out a new vinyl edition of their Lola Vs. album - that's my favorite Kinks album, and pretty much the only one not readily available on a decent new vinyl. I think they last pressed some limited copies some 10 years ago. Even Musswell Hillbillies has a snazzy vinyl edition. Don't know why they're ignoring Lola.

The Kinks have always had messed up reissues, and even when they get something right like this box and the RSD EPs they do something random like not bothering to release Lola.

There's a new(ish) "super group", comprised of Paul Weller's touring band, who are all exemplary musicians and songwriters. They call themselves "The Songbook Collective" and they just put out an album all by themselves. It's only available through Bandcamp, and the first pressing of the vinyl (in color) sold out before it was pressed (as was the CD), and they just pressed a final regular black vinyl.

Anyhow, I got the initial color vinyl (below), and it's pretty snazzy. Besides being a huge Weller fan, the guitarist is also the guitarist for Ocean Colour Scene, one of my favorite bands, and he's one of my favorite guitarists. If you like catchy British pop-rock, check them out.

Is Weller part of the group?

I know you're joking, but you're thinking of Peter Weller (who actually does jam in Buckaroo Banzai), whereas Paul Weller headed The Jam in the late '70s, then went on to form The Style Council in the '80s and has had a successful solo career since the early '90s.

So, since my Kinks set STILL hadn't even shipped (even well after all you assholes already got yours), I sent them a quick message inquiring about my order.

They haven't responded yet, but I did get an automated response saying that they're back-logged due to a "tragedy" within their customer service team.... well, now I feel like the asshole.

Think I might grab the Plus as an upgrade. Anyone have one and can recommend a color? I'll likely get the black but that's the boring move.

I have been seeing a lot of all white systems on Instagram lately. Kinda looks sexy. Limiting I guess for amps, but a lot of speakers come in white these days including the new and pretty reasonable Andrew Jones Elacs.

I have a white one. I like the look of it a lot, but it does tend to get dusty pretty quickly. If they offered yellow, I'd have been all over that.

The acrylic platter is pretty nice, too.

If you're a mono fan, the new Dylan MFSL mono 45 RPM releases are really stellar. I got The Times They Are A-Changin' and John Wesley Harding in mono and the directness on Times is arresting. The bass on JWH is intense and deep. I've got Freewheelin' on preorder as well. Not gonna pay MFSL prices for his debut or Another Side, and I prefer his electric trilogy in stereo (which I also have on MFSL 45). The only one they haven't announced in mono is Blonde on Blonde. Some are speculating they may do a one-step like the recent Abraxas. If they do, it's going to probably be $150 since it will be three discs.

Okay, now I'm getting pissed!

Not only have they still not shipped out my order, they haven't responded to my inquiry about my order from 5 days ago, AND the Kinks set is now sold out.
If I don't get it, I'll be fucking pissed!
I pre-ordered it before some people who have already gotten theirs.

Has anyone who ordered the Kinks set not gotten theirs yet?

I'm pissed that my Dead or Alive Sophisticated Boom Boom Boxed set from Amazon UK still has not been shipped and has been sitting on "dispatching soon" status for over week. My card has also been charged and it's now sold out. I have been reading about the QA clusterfuck on some of the pressings in that one side of the albums had Elvis and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - just some but not all. I'm gonna wait until Monday and if it doesn't ship by then I will send them an email. It's now only being offered by 3rd market sellers.

I like vinyl and have been listening to NIN for 20+ years but IMO some music is not meant for vinyl & NIN is an example.

Managed to get a copy of the Beatles mono vinyl box for $155 new. I'm not going to be able to buy anything for a year after this holiday season.

Ha! I was just thinking I have no clue how Supr buys all these records. I'm envious.

Vinyl has become my main hobby, and even then this is an abnormal amount for me. I'm going to cut back in the new year.

Maybe I'll finally get that Kinks mono set in the new year, I've already paid for it...
