New Winger's also better than the last few Metallica and AC/DC albums (yes, I understand that's not saying much), which means Stewart was on to something...

I assume there will be the eventual boxset with all of the releases. I will wait for that.

Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
Ok, since this thread has totally drifted...
I've been impressed with the number of thrash bands who have released some of their best material recently despite their members getting into their 40s and 50s. We've had some monsters in recent years:
Overkill - "The Electric Age" (a masterpiece from them)
Anthrax - "Worship Music"
Death Angel - "The Dream Calls for Blood"
Flotsam & Jetsam - "The Cold"
Testament - "Dark Roots of Earth"
And I'm not a fan but many said the last Ratt album was really, really good. And the last two Rush albums were on par with late 70s/early 80s work.
It's funny how many of these guys find a new fire in middle age.

Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
What would 80s (and beyond) Zeppelin sound like?
Synth-heavey, ala Rush? Or would they have gone hair metal like Alice Cooper?
Would Plant and Page's post-Zeppelin solo material have been an indication? (Christ, I hated the Honeydrippers, and The Firm and Outrider were forgettable. Plant's Now and Zen is really the only post-Zeppelin stuff that's held up for me.)

Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
A lot of old timers are putting out great stuff that sounds like the work they did in the early 70s. Most jumped on the AOR bandwagon starting with 1977 and really full tilt in the 80s. No longer on major labels, airplay irrelavent, with no expectations of commercial success(like the early 70s) we are getting some great music. If you had favorite artists that you dropped because they started to suck in late 70s-90s, see what they've been up to lately.

Some people said that Robert Plant's first solo album "Pictures at Eleven" is a good indication which direction Zep would have went in the 80's if Bonzo had lived.

^if by a "Few token songs" you mean the same 15 songs they've played in every single show since 1975.

I think In The Evening is a better indicator. Page's soundtrack to Death Wish 2 (or was it 3?) gives an idea where he was at. The Firm was all Paul Rodgers. He's always the alpha-male and everything from Free to Bad Company to Firm sounds like same band, different guitarist. Even the Queen album with Rodgers sounds like Paul Rodgers album with Brian May on guitar.
Overall, In Through The Out Door is a bad indicator. The two driving forces of LZ were MIA. Page on heroin, Plant still in funk over death of son. JPJ took over the recording of the album. It is THE JOHN PAUL JONES album.
Plant's PICTURES AT ELEVEN is best indicator. It's transitional. One foot in old school LZ, the other in the direction of Plant's expanding "personal" musical direction.
Onward, Plant's influence would increase but we would not have gotten the solo albums we did. Maybe several the same songs, but they would be tweaked by the others band members' influence. We would not get The Firm with Plant on vocals.
The albums would have been more successful than Plant's solo ones and the material would become standard in shows, especially given Plant's tiredness/boredom/lost interest in the older stuff. Unlike the Stones with couple new songs combines with same songs every show, it would be more 50/50.

No. There is nothing on these that remotely interest me. I think the mixes from the mid-90s box sets are just fine and these bonus tracks are not worth anything beyond a cursory first listen. This is a money grab, pure and simple.
Now excuse me while I spend another $100 on the next Pumpkins reissue.

I second that notion of 94' remasters sounding pretty well. I felt the same way about Pink Floyd's 90s remasters when the reissues came out last year so I balked at those too. This isn't like The Beatles remasters where they were replacing 1st gen CDs. My go to Zeppelin album is Live At The BBC anyways.

I never liked how the first Zeppelin album sounded on cd so I ordered the first album to hopefully have an upgrade. If that one goes well then i'll look at other cd releases. If not, i'll just keep what I have and go with that.

I'm just going to buy some of the rare tracks off of the second discs on Amazon and burn them to disc. I'm so glad they are offering those for sale as MP3's!

If anyone just wants the remastered albums without bonus tracks, LZ I and LZ II are 15.99 on vinyl and LZ III is 19.99 on vinyl at Hastings
