New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
Just after I bought the definitive collection at Ebay this news comes out.
In a new interview, Jimmy Page told Mojo that every original Led Zeppelin album will be reissued (in remastered form) in 2013, each in its own box set. Each box set will contain alternate versions of the band's classic songs. "There are a number of Led Zeppelin projects that will come out next year," Page said. "There are different versions of tracks that we have that can be added to the album, so there will be box sets of material that will come out starting next year. There will be one box set per album with extra music that will surface." It also was revealed that Page is working on the remasters. This is just the latest piece of Led Zeppelin news to surface since early September, when the band announced the release of Celebration Day, the CD/DVD/Blu-ray representation of their December 2007 reunion show at London's O2 Arena. While the live film is already in theaters (and doing quite well at the box office, it should be said), the CD/DVD/Blu-ray, etc. will be released November 19 in multiple configurations. The band also will reunite for one night at the Kennedy Center Honors, where they will perform and be honored; the show will be broadcast on CBS 9 p.m. EST December 26. http://c438342.r42.cf2.rackcdn.com/w...ppelin-cos.jpg |
Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
Any truth to the rumor that Robert Trujillo and Mike Bordin will be re-recording the bass and drums?

Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
Why not just release a 3 to 4 disc box set of outtakes instead of selling another set of remasters for the 3rd time?

Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
This should be interesting. Can't wait to at least see the song lists and versions he's talking about once they are released.

Page has soundboard for every show they did. Hoping someday he'd clean them up and give us complete shows from various tours. Given all the live stuff already on cd, nothing beyond 1973. If they exist, any XYZ Band recordings. |
Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
Sounds exciting...and expensive. Who am I kidding, I will buy each one of them and I will like it.

Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
Didn't he handle the last round of remasters? What a joke.

Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
These remasters will magically sound like they haven't been overplayed on the radio for decades.

Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
Yeah, Zeppelin are one of those bands that I can appreciate but never seem interested in revisiting.

Except that so many stations only play the same 6 songs by them. Then again that's better than just 3 songs for The Clash.

Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
I'm in the D.C. area. The main ones they play are:
Stairway Over the Hills Ramble On Rock and Roll Black Dog And maybe Fool in the Rain. If I hear Misty Mountain Hop then it's time to bring out the champagne. I do hear others from time to time but very rarely. As for The Clash... Should I Stay or Should I Go Rock the Casbah and London Calling in a very distant third. In fact I heard that on a contemporary station rather than the older one. |

Really. How many times has a remaster REALLY been worth buying a whole catalog of an artist. Led Zeppelin's recordings sound just fine.

Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
Yeah, as big as an influence Zeppelin was in my music (they're what got me to pick up a guitar and learn to play it 25 years ago), I'm fine if I never listen to them again. In fact, I don't think I've voluntarily listened to Zep in almost a decade.

Pretty sure he was being sarcastic.
That was an 80's really like "really man", not a 2010's really like "really". |

Was MOTHERSHIP the last re-master? |
Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
Wasn't 3 the magic number for the Beatles remasters?

Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
I'd like to amend my above post...I did hear a song outside of those that I mentioned. Totally blanking on which one though.

Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
I'm surprised by some of these comments. Is the daily "Get the Led Out" block not a national phenomenon? After years of nothing but NPR at home, I've recently started listening to a bit of classic rock at work again. I don't think they can go 2 hours without a Zep song. In fact, I just got through Zeptember, followed by Rocktober, & am now knee-deep in Billy-Joel-November.
You're not likely to hear anything off of Presence or Coda, but 80% of everything else seems to be fair game. I've noticed "The Ocean" getting a lot of play lately. As for The Clash, you forgot "Train in Vain." |
Re: New Led Zeppelin remasters by Jimmy Page in 2013
Tom Scharpling sometimes throws on "Night Flight" or another deep cut just to spice things up. The deepest into Zep's catalog I've ever heard a commercial station go is something like "That's the Way".

Out here, we also hear (along with that list) on the classic rock station KBLJ I listen to:
Kashmir Dy'er Mak'er Dazed and Confused Heartbreaker/Livin' Lovin' Maid Fool in The Rain If I hear any other of their songs besides all those on the radio...it's pretty amazing! About six months ago I was listening to KLBJ on my way home and somebody in the studio put on a pretty deep cut from the Zep catalog, either "Hot Dog" or "Poor Tom"... something like that. After the song the two DJs claimed they'd never even heard that song before. |
