Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

I'd like to think Swift would disavow these supporters, but it's true--you can't stay silent these days or you'll be considered in agreement. That rising-from-the-dead line seems like a stretch, though.

Everything about it is a stretch. Ever since the Kardashian/Kanye nonsense all the sites have started clickbait hating on Swift since it's the cool thing to do.

That newest video with her in the Ghost in the Shell suit is cool -- she looks good in it.

I admit the song is catchy.

I seriously doubt she is a racist when she did a duet with Zayn Malik and Joseph Khan who is Asian directed most of her videos the last couple of years.

There was a giant ad for Tay's new album on the side of the UPS truck that pulled up at work today. I don't recall ever seeing a UPS truck with an ad like that before.

It's a pretty strange deal all around.

I loved 1989 and think the new album is pretty bad.

According to my wife and sister who ran to Target early this morning, there was a line outside the door for this CD. I didn't know people still did that.

I'm surprised by that given the exclusive this time around (magazine) is pretty lame. No bonus tracks.

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

While reading all the sex abuse blind items in the other threads I read that Tay Sway and her people are basicly blocking access to any publication that gives the album a bad review. No exclusive interview if your critic gives it a bad rating. They must be unsure of the material; the lead single sounded like shit.

Why do they have to be so mean?

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

Maybe she is so huge now she does not do those concerts on the Today show or GMA or the other shows to promote the album though she appeared on the Tonight Show and SNL.

Those artists need better people booking gigs for them.

I thought some of the examples the writer used were skewed to support her argument.
Like how Kanye is still hated, but not mentioning that he went platinum and had a critically acclaimed album after the Swift award thing.
Or comparing her video to Hitler propaganda, when Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj both had dominatrix/S&M/Nazi-chic-looking clothing in their videos.

The writer had a good point though about Taylor Swift being silent. She's not obligated as an artist to speak out on issues, but it's odd that she's vocal about gay issues, but not issues of racism or white supremacy. I agree with the writer that says it's probably calculated on her part. She probably doesn't want Trump supporters and conservatives turning on her.

All the other stuff was just BS in my opinion to pad the article.

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

Is she under some obligation to speak about political issues. Will there be some coming day of reckoning where all celebs will be judged by their twitter bullshit? “Ms. Swift, it says here you spoke out about gay causes, but not racism causes. You must be punished for your silence.”

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

No kidding. Entertainers can't win. If they speak up on issues, they are told to shut up and just do their jobs and leave politics out of it. If they don't speak up, then apparently they will also be slammed and accused of tacitly endorsing certain things.

That's true, but I think there's a difference between randomly offering opinions and speaking up about people who are associating themselves with you.

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

Both the Reputation CD alone and the magazines with CD have been marked down to $13 today only at Target.com, probably to spur some last minute sales that will count toward the album's first week.

$13 for a CD in this day and age is ridiculous.

Of course it is. But for the rest of this week they had been charging 15.99 for the CD only package and 19.99 for the magazine.

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

Most of those artists performing on GMA and Today are the ones that are currently popular on the billboard charts and it gets them exposure so it can't hurt.

I thought most new CD releases are usually priced at $9.99 but they increase the prices when nobody buys CDs anymore? WTF?

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

Who would pay over $50 for Reputation on a 2 disc picture vinyl set?
