Taylor recorded a new song yesterday. It's a song she wrote in 2008 but never recorded. It's called You All Over Me. It is a country song produced by Aaron Desner and amazing it works great. Very pretty song

Yeah part of these album rerecording she's doing is also adding in bonus songs from that period that either weren't on the album or deluxe edition tracks.

Speaking of the Deluxe editions of these albums, I discovered through listening to those podcasts that I need to review the deluxe edition songs as well. I found this unbelievably great song on the deluxe edition of Red and then they never even mentioned it on the podcast. The song is The Moment I Knew, which is based on an incident where Jake Gyllenhaal didn’t show up for girlfriend Taylor Swift’s 21st birthday party. A truly shitty move. What a great song though. Glad I finally discovered it.

Working through Taylor's discography in order to fully appreciate these podcasts. I really enjoyed 1989, such a great album.

I am now up to Reputation and am reluctantly revisiting it for the first time since it came out. Time has done it no favors. Man does that album SUCK! Is that Calvin Harris fault? :scratch2:

I will next listen to their take on it. Hopefully they are harsh on it. I will be at least a little bit disappointed if they try to convince me that it's a good album.

After that it's all good stuff though. At least until the re-recording of Fearless.

The rumor is that she lost her virginity to Jake too, which I'm sure didn't help either. He does seem kind of skuzzy. Not that I think Taylor isn't a player either.

There is 0% chance that John Mayer didn’t already tap that ass. But it does not change what a shitty boyfriend Jake G. must have been. He’s clearly referenced in We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, All Too Well, Treacherous, I Kew You Were Trouble and the aforementioned The Moment I Knew. Almost can’t be mad at the guy for producing that much good material. He’s like a male version of Patty Boyd.

Speaking of Jake, I found it hilarious that he is vocal-starring in a sequel to Spirit called Spirit Untamed, and guess who they picked to do the music? :suicide:

I love Reputation. Easily her most underrated album.

Of course the forum’s designated contrarian loves it. 😂

Personally I like Delicate, Getaway Car, New Year’s Day, maybe half of Ready For It. Seriously that’s about it.
The album is so full of electronic bloops, vocal distortions, shouted lyrics. So hook-averse songwriting. Some incredibly repetitive lyrics. I dislike it so much.
Really curious to see what Nora and Nathan think of it. I am 100% certain that they will like it way more than I do (how could they not as super fans?). Still I am curious to see what they say about it.
For whatever reason, critical reception, disappointing album sales, Grammy disinterest or just a change in personal taste, she hasn’t made anything that sounds anything like it again (thankfully).

Edit : On re-listen I would like to add Don’t Blame Me. Good vocals from Taylor on that and I like the choir backing vocals. But none of the others really grew on me; maybe King of My Heart?

Really my only complaint with the album is that Ed Sheeran and Future ruin End Game a song I otherwise really like.

Earlier in this thread you mentioned that The Ringer threw a lot of shade at the lead single, so I went back to see what they thought of the album at the time. They were not too fond of it.

This was in the period where it wasn't cool to like Taylor Swift so of course The Ringer was going to hate it. Their pop culture department is too cool for everything. I don't take most of their music opinions seriously. Reputation was more well received then you probably remember. Doing a quick Google search it's on most major music sites best of the year lists and it was nominated for Best Pop Album at the Grammys. So it's not like it was some epic failure it was just a slight letdown compared to the 1989 juggernaut.

Fearless Taylor’s Version is out. 26 tracks. 1 hr 46 min. Will take a while to get through. Six songs “From The Vault”. The first few songs I listened to are alright. Not the version I would seek out for most of these songs. Weird to hear a 31 year old sing “Fifteen”. Of course her voice is much better than it was in 2008.

I really do love the new version of Breathe, again duetting with Colbie Cailet. It’s much better than the original.

I feel vindicated since they gave Reputation an A- and a B+. I would give it a similar score.

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

 Yes they sure did. Seemed like an overly high score for an album that they readily admit is "exhausting" on the A side. They still haven't convinced me. I hear Hard Knock Life in "This is Why We Can't Have Nice Things".
I really tried, but it's just Delicate, Getaway Car and a couple of others that I like.
Can't believe that Jack produced "Look What You Made Me Do". That song is pure dreck and Nick and Nora both readily admit that.

BTW : After working my way through the entire discography and all these episodes (save the last Fearless one), Spotify clearly thinks I am a Taylor super-Stan. She's in all my daily mixes now. :p

Nora actually likes "Look What You Made Me Do" they just didn't like it as the lead single. She mentions again that she thinks it is a good song during the "Lover" podcast.

I ordered the deluxe CD of Fearless from Target

Mr Perfectly Fine sounds like she was working a demo to get to write Fifteen or You Belong to Me.

Anyone going to preorder the vinyl from the official store for $39? It comes out around Nov 19, 2021./

I bet it will be available at other retailers with the vinyl color being the only big difference

As frequently speculated, Taylor has contributed to a Big Red Machine project.

I don't follow her that closely but isn't a lot of this her re-recording stuff to get the rights to her albums back?

One is. She released Fearless - Taylor's version in April. But the other two are indie-inspired albums of original material recorded during lock down in her bedroom with Aaron Desner of The National and Jack Antinoff of Bleachers producing. Those albums - folklore and evermore are both excellent. folklore won the Album of the Year Grammy.
Her next release will be a re-recording of Red and comes out in November. This song is a surprise release, but after doing so much work with Desner in 2020 it was widely speculated that she would contribute to his side project with Bon Iver and maybe do a song with them.

My wife loves the poppy stuff and doesn't really like folklore or evermore. I bought them for her, but she usually skips over them when they come up on her playlist
