Wesley Morris, The New York Times: "When Taylor declares herself — the old her — dead via phone call, in the breakdown, it gave me the 13 Reasons Why blues. (Good luck with that, America’s middle-school administrators!) I much prefer the violence in a song like I Knew You Were Trouble, where she’s melodically evocative about the physical state of being hurt. ... Even in the pain, there’s a kind of ecstasy. I’ve listened to Look What You Made Me Do five times now, and I don’t hear that. I hear Ms. Perry, Peaches, Lorde, Fergie, J.J. Fad, and, lord help me, J.J. Fad courtesy of Fergie. What I can’t hear is Taylor Swift. Just about all her peers can speak electropop fluently. She’s doing remedial exercises on this one, and all I hear is her cramming." |

I kind of like the bridge, but the chorus SUCKS. Kind of like third-tier Brittney sort of terrible.

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread
Glad to see my senses are spot on. I heard it today and thought, "This is the lead single?!"
It's really bad. |
Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread
It's a masterpiece compared to "Swish Swish"

2) That is a really low bar to clear 3) Swish Swish, to be fair, wasn't the lead single - Chained to the Rhythm was |
Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread
I dig Swish Swish also. Katy Perry's new album is very underrated.

It's the whole image that she has cultivated through the years. Folks are attracted to that -- doesn't matter if there's depth to it. |

I'm uncomfortable with body shaming. Can't we go back to discussing how unappealing her new single is?

This song is better than the first single. |
Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread
The official video is now out.
Is she trying to do scifi now or copy Ghost in the Shell? |
Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread
Now "Look What You Made Me Do" is associated with White Nationalism. rotfl
Titled "Swiftly to the alt-right: Taylor subtly gets the lower case kkk in formation", Herning's piece claims Swift's single "Look What You Made Me Do" contains "dog whistles to white supremacy i Lines like "I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time", quoted by alt-right publication Breitbart on Twitter, are equated by Herning to ideas that white supremacy has gained new traction in the wake of Trump's election. She also compares shots from the video where, dressed in leather, Swift addresses an army of followers to images of Adolf Hitler. "Taylor lords over an army of models from a podium, akin to what Hitler had in Nazis Germany," she writes. "The similarities are uncanny and unsettling." The piece makes no sure claim to Swift's political beliefs, but does criticise the pop star for her stark silence on the subject, in an era which has turned many pop stars into political campaigners. "And while pop musicians are not respected world leaders, they have a huge audience and their music often reflects their values. So Taylor's silence is not innocent, it is calculated," Herning writes. Swift has never herself publicly denounced her white supremacist fans. The letter presents itself as "yet another unequivocal denouncement by Ms. Swift of white supremacy and the alt-right", yet Herning is also warned publication of the letter would act as breach of copyright. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-en...-a8041551.html https://metrouk2.files.wordpress.com...8/taylor-3.jpg https://pixel.nymag.com/imgs/daily/v....w710.h473.jpg |
