Last night, I went to see DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist at the Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas. They're currently doing an all vinyl tour with 6 turntables using Afrika Bambaataa's record collection. After the tour is over, the records are being archived at Cornell University. It was a pretty fantastic show.

Decided at the last minute to attend the Cage the Elephant / The Black Keys show last night. Although Saturday night's show was sold out, the added Sunday night show was maybe half filled with tickets up close available before the show.

Sometimes a band comes around and appears to have been created solely towards my interests. In this case, someone decided that it was a good idea to mix the Spice Girls with thrash metal, and came up with the Butcher Babies. Opening act, Anti-Mortem, was very good, kind of a mix of Pantera and Testament.

I just got back from this year's "Hardly Strictly Bluegrass" festival in San Fransisco's Golden Gate Park. It is, for my money, the best music festival out there. Yeah, sure, it's free, but even if it wasn't it would still be one of my favorites.
So much amazing talent in one place, 6 stages, and you can pretty much walk right up to the stage if you want. It can get crowded on Saturdays (it's on Friday through Sunday from 11 to 7), but it's still an amazing experience.
Here are the acts I saw:
- John Prine (good)
- Lucinda Williams (drunk, but good)
- Yo La Tengo (great, if you're into them)
- Ryan Adams (great, and hilarious)
- Dave Rawlings & Gillian Welch (John Paul Jones guested) (just fantastic!)
- Rose's Pawnshop (feel good)
- Deltron 3030 with orchestra (surprisingly great) the only hiphop act, and the most crowded stage - it was crazy!
- Built To Spill (fantastic)
- Mavis Staples (amazing)
- Jon Batiste (so good)
- Apache Relay (solid)
- Ralph Stanley (a legend)
- Bonnie Prince Billy (remarkable)
- Hot Rize (actual bluegrass!)
- Earls of Leicester (more bluegrass - with Dobro!)
- T Bone Burnett (good, but unremarkable)
- Sarah Jarosz (remarkable! a real talent)
- Tweedy (great as always, with and without his son)
- Dwight Yokam (sounded good)
- Rosanne Cash (ditto)
- Jason Isbell (heavy!)
- Emmylou Harris (lovely!)

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
I was at the Morning Musume concert at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square last night.
Great show!
9 years I've been a fan and they finally come to New York--only their second appearance in America. (I was at their first--L.A. in July 2009, and only one member of the group back then is still in the group.)

Saw Crystal Bowersox at a little club here in Indy last week. This was recorded by the lady at the table right in front of me. Very good, intimate show with just Crystal and another girl on bass. There couldn't have been more than 40 people in the place.

It was great, very theatrical and the whole band was having fun. That was my first time at Wooly's and I was impressed with it.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
I'm going to see them a week from today. I'm so fucking excited to see them as I've been a big fan for quite a while but they've never came anywhere too close by and I haven't seen the full band (saw Vedder solo in 2011). I only wish my seat was a bit better but I'm still happy to be going.
