Beyond Magnetic Released on CD
We're still pumped up after celebrating our 30th anniversary last month with Fan Club members from around the world and by sharing the stage with musicians we have admired all our lives. As you may have heard by now, part of the fun on those nights included playing unreleased tracks from the Death Magnetic sessions and after giving them to all Fan Club members for free, those songs have been available on iTunes and other at digital retailers for several weeks. We've been feeling all the love and positive vibes beyond our wildest expectations on the mp3 side, so we decided to go "old school" (!!) and also release those four songs on a CD.
The Beyond Magnetic EP will be available world-wide at retail on January 30 and in North America on January 31. As a refresher, these four songs are the rough mixes, unfinished to their original degree of mixing from March of 2008. Those of you still following along with finely tuned ears might recognize bits and pieces from the 'Mission:Metallica' videos posted during that summer.
Happy New Year!
BEYOND MAGNETIC TRACKLISTING:
1. Hate Train
2. Just A Bullet Away
3. Hell And Back
4. Rebel Of Babylon

Metallica in 3D?
Happy New Year!!! As you know, we generally make it a policy not to comment on gossip or rumors, but we also pride ourselves on being first with 'Tallica news. So, with that said, the more astute of you may have noticed a couple of mentions in trade publications, and most recently in the new issue of Rolling Stone, that a Metallica 3D movie is in the works. We're here to tell you that, yes, there is indeed a 3D project in the very early stages of production! We wish we could tell you more right now, but we don't have all the finer points nailed down just yet. What we can tell you is that we are planning on being in a theatre near you sometime in 2013 and as you hear us say ever so often, this will be the space for all the details as we finalize them.
Welcome to 2012... we're pretty psyched about the year ahead!

Kirk talks about new album...
Kirk talks about new album...
Just read in Rolling Stone Mag that the boys are 7 to 8 songs into the new album, writing wise according to Lars. Kirk said, "We're not going for the complexity that we did for DM. The stuff we're coming up with now is more groove oriented, a heavier version of what we were doing in the early 90s". He also said, "If DM was logical successor to AJFA than the next album will be a heavier Black Album". Lars also talked about the album release date and added, "If Id say 2012 Id be lying, I hope its not later than 2013.

I am waiting for the hip hop Metallica album. A heavier version of the Black Album sounds like shit too me. Oh well, puts on Ride The Lightning.

I think I can keep an open mind towards the new album. A "heavier version of the Black Album" doesn't sound like a bad idea... I personally think the Black Album was just a very good Hard Rock album from a Thrash Metal band.
As long as they don't plan to revisit the sounds of Load/ Reload & St Anger, I think I can positively hold out for the new album in 2013

I don't ever read into what bands say their next album will sound like. I'm only happy to hear the songs will be more "to the point" and not meander about for over 8 minutes.

I still think it's lame they refer to themselves as "'Tallica", like adding the "Me" is extra work.
I'm guessing this is an announcement for the East Coast "30 Years" shows they promised to play. Most likely 2 nights instead of 4.

Blabbermouth:
METALLICA has invited more than 22 of its favorite artists from across the music and comedy spectrum to the inaugural Orion Music + More, set to take place June 23-24 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. More than just music, the festival will also feature a lifestyle element showcasing the band's individual interests — and allowing fans to interact directly with each of the band members.
METALLICA will headline both nights, and play its classic 1991 self-titled album in its entirety on one of the nights for the first time ever on U.S. soil.
The festival billing is shaping up as follows:
METALLICA
ARCTIC MONKEYS
AVENGED SEVENFOLD
MODEST MOUSE
THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM
CAGE THE ELEPHANT
FUCKED UP
BEST COAST
HOT SNAKES
TITUS ANDRONICUS
GARY CLARK JR.
LUCERO
ROKY ERICKSON
THE BLACK ANGELS
THE SWORD
A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS
LITURGY
For more information, visit www.orionmusicandmore.com.

Roky Erickson and The Sword aside, that lineup SUCKS. Are they serious with this? I'd be game for a Metallica festival, but maybe with bands that, you know, fit the bill.

Metallica with a bunch of Hipster bands? Sign me up! Wait, don't. I actually like several of those bands, but outside Liturgy and The Sword (and I guess Avenged Sevenfold too) are any of them even heavy? Seems like a horrible mish-mash.

Goddamn... some of those bands are going to get pelted with more shit than the Blues Brothers at that redneck honky tonk.

Re: Metallica: Previously unreleased song "HATE TRAIN"
I don't see the problem, since it isn't being billed as a hard rock festival. There's only a few that I don't really care about, a few that I've never heard of, a several that I would like to see. It sounds like it could be kind of neat, and if I lived in the area, I would go.
If nothing else, hearing Ride the Lightning all the way through would be pretty cool.

You mean the entire album has been played start to finish OUTSIDE of US soil? When was this? I thought they only did something similar for the Master of Puppets anniversary thingy…

Metallica and Avenged Sevenfold are my two favorite bands. But after the fiasco that was Metallica at Quebec City last summer with 200,000 people i really don't think I'll go.
Would be AMAZING if they TOURED though, but only at ONE place? I'll pass.
Plus Montreal to New Jersey would be a fucking long drive! lol
