Re: Amazon MP3 DOTD Thread (Nov)

Thanks for the code. Got Regina Spektor's new version of "Ne Me Quitte Pas" from her upcoming album since it's one of my favorite songs by her, and also got Sinead O'Connor's version of "Song to the Siren." (Not as good as This Mortal Coil, but still good.) The new Garbage single "Blood for Poppies" is good, too.

5/4 (Friday): Chamber Music: 50 of the Best - $2.99

Not too interested in this, but I didn't want the thread to fall off the first page. We may never have seen it again. Although, I can't say I've been interested in anything they've offered in weeks.

Re: Amazon MP3 DOTD Thread (Nov)

I think they hit their all-time low point earlier this week when they had the audacity to call a $6.99 Rufus Wainwright album their "MP3 Album Deal of the Day".

They are selling the new Norah Jones album Little Broken Hearts for $5. I like it a lot.

It's been terrible for the past couple of weeks, to be sure. I'm to the point where I just check the "$4.99 and under" link instead for anything that might be reduced unannounced, but that selection has been pretty weak, too.

Hell, I bet even Tom Hanks didn't think $6.99 for Rita Wilson's new album was a good Deal of the Day.

The $5 Album of the Week is Lionel Richie's Tuskegee. It's a huge surprise hit and I'll be picking it up.

Google has some $3.99 albums. I would assume Amazon would price match these. Here is the list at Google you can use to compare.

The funny thing about that chamber-music deal was that the sampler player listed all the movements but not the composers.

But I agree that this feature has become nearly irrelevant to me.

Thank goodness for Google Music for keeping Amazon MP3 Store from being a total waste.

This week's deals that Amazon is matching is an eclectic bunch of albums. For me, at least, the highlight is that Songs From The Hunger Games album for $3.99

That is indeed an eclectic list. The Hunger Games is tempting for me too, though my kid already bought the main Taylor Swift song. Nothing else jumping out at me, but that Florence + the Machine is going to forever torment me till I finally break down and buy it.

Re: Amazon MP3 DOTD Thread (Nov)

Many of this month's $5 MP3 Albums are only $3 if purchased on the Kindle Fire (using the Music Tab at the top of the Fire home screen, not the Fire's browser) or using the Android Amazon MP3 App (which is not available for the Kindle Fire). Which titles are available at the $2 discount is only indicated if you use your computer or Kindle Fire browser, not the Kindle Fire music store. The wording is as follows:

$2 off Select $5 Albums Purchased on the Amazon MP3 App for Android or Kindle Fire
Get $2 off select $5 MP3 albums when you purchase it on your Amazon MP3 app for Android or Kindle Fire. Discount applied at purchase, no code required.

Using the $2 Facebook credit results in a net cost of $1 (first grab the Facebook credit; it is automatically applied when purchasing using the App or Fire).

That's a really weird promotion. You can't see the discount on the android app, only on the browsers, but you can only get the discount on the app or the Fire, not on the web browsers. WTF??
I've read through all the rules of the promotion and I don't see any indication that it's a one-per-person promo, so I guess if you buy several $5 albums, you can get $2 off each, though there's no way to know that until you get your confirmation email.

Re: Amazon MP3 DOTD Thread (Nov)

I ended up getting the Hunger Games since that's still 3.99, and I also got the Norah Jones Amazon Local deal for 3.99 (note that the regular price for Jones is now up to 7.99). The Jones looks like it lasts through today, but it was kind of a confusing experience. I had to redeem the deal on local, then look up my "vouchers" on Local (first I tried to find them on my Amazon account), where I found the discount code. There I clicked through to Amazon MP3, redeemed my code, and clicked through to the Jones detail page, where I had to buy it through one-click at the 7.99 price after having been reassured that it'd be 3.99. Once the one-click went through, I saw the order details, and it listed the regular price of 7.99 with a final total of 3.99, with no indication of the Local discount or whatever--the $4 had just disappeared into the ether. Anyway, it seems to have worked, but it was pretty strange and not at all comfortable.

No kidding. It's a leap of faith wondering if the discount would go through after the purchase. Has anyone used this more than once? Was wondering how many times you can use the android app for the $2 savings.

I had some spare time today to see if I could get that Amazon android app on my Nook color. Since I have an android operating system installed on a external memory card fortunately it wasn't a problem to install the app. Was able to download a $5 album and get the $2 promotion combined with the free $2 facebook credit, but had to go to my Amazon account page to confirm I was only charged a $1 for the album.

Re: Amazon MP3 DOTD Thread (Nov)

FWIW, I picked up two $5 albums (The Fray and Simply Red) via my Android phone app and received $2 discounts on both, plus the $2 Facebook promo. As far as I can tell, the promo is good on any album currently $5, (but not the $4.99 ones).

I wish I liked the samples of the new Santana album more, but it sounds like elevator music to me.

Re: Amazon MP3 DOTD Thread (Nov)

I'm not so sure it's on every $5 album. I noticed some of the $5 albums it mentions the $2 app promotion, and some don't have any reference to the offer. I was sort of interested in the Go-Go's album but there is nothing on the album page that mentions it's eligible for the $2 discount. Anyway there are a few I may get that look like they qualify. $3 each is not too bad a deal.

Edit to add:

I believe this is the list of all the eligible titles on this page.
