Recommend Recent Albums for A Fan of Classic Rock
Hi,
I'm primarily a fan of older classic rock and collector of albums on vinyl and CD. I was wondering if anybody could recommend any recent albums (2000-forward) that would appeal to someone with my musical tastes. Also I'd like to know if any of these older artists (1970s) have put out any decent albums lately. I like my music to rock, but I also like good lyrics.
Thanks.

The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America (Please ignore the awful album cover.)
My Morning Jacket - It Still Moves
Lucero - Rebels, Rogues, and Sworn Brothers
The Black Crowes - Before the Frost ... Until the Freeze

I am in the same boat. The only band that has impressed me this decade, but I don't own any of their records is Los Lonely Boys. Great riffs, great harmony vocals, they jam.

Only By The Night by Kings Of Leon feels like classic rock to me.
Mudcrutch is the 2008 "debut" album by Tom Petty and members of the Heartbreakers. I like that one a lot.

More recent releases from classic artists
Blue Oyster Cult-Curse Of The Hidden Mirror, Heaven Forbid
Tom Petty-Highway Companion
Bob Seger-Face The Promise
John Fogerty-Revival
Whitesnake-Good To Be Bad
Mellencamp-Freedom Road
Rush-Snakes And Arrows
Rolling Stones-A Bigger Bang
Neil Young-Greendale
ZZ Top-Mescalero
Most sound retro and could have been released 25 years ago and nobody would know the difference.

White Stripes
Throttlerod
Supersuckers
Hellacopters (in fact someone gave me an advance of "Grande Rock" that was taped over a Grand Funk Railroad album; when "Grande Rock" ended and the Grand Funk began, I still thought it was the Hellacopters!)

Raspberries- Live on Sunset Strip is a great live album. I saw them once and they were great, wish they would play more.

Does anyone like the Blue Van? They might be the only newer band I like with a classic sound.

Lewis Taylor - The Lost Album
It's a love letter to late 60s to 70s rock and soft pop like Todd Rundgren, CSNY, Love, The Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, Zeppelin etc...

Re: Recommend Recent Albums for A Fan of Classic Rock
If you want to hear a discussion of them as well as a couple songs (not complete), there is a review of their album starting at 46:15 on the November 20, 2009 Sound Opinions podcast: http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect....podshow208.mp3
Maybe you will like it but listen to their discussion before you buy it. One loves it, the other didn't really like it and noted that the lyrics are pretty bad, like "I will let you caligu-love me".

Re: Recommend Recent Albums for A Fan of Classic Rock
I agree with the person who mentioned Kings of Leon, but if you're looking for a more classic rock sound, I would start with their earlier albums. They don't feel as overproduced to me; much more raw and 'classic'.
