You can pick these up as a box set. It's an Amazon exclusive:

http://www.amazon.com/Deluxe-Box-Set...6041377&sr=8-2

Price is $64. This is the cheapest option so far.

I loved when Muchmusic used to play their videos for Red Rocks. I think it's one of the great live performance.

Do you suppose the DVD will still have the "special effects" or will they be minimized? ;)

The zootv fox tv special would have been a great extra. Some of the footage is included. I think it was only 45 mins, so they could have included it on the 2nd disc.

Also, it would have been great if they had made retrospective featuretes with some new interviews.

Other than that, these sets were amazing.

Most of it is on the 2 dvd version...

Anyways...

Looks like it might be the complete show (since it runs about 81 minutes complete)

Do you mean the streaking? That is a problem from the type of cameras used. (tube cameras as opposed to CCD cameras) That isn't a special effect...

I'd like these but that is still $20/cd. Here's hoping they pop up on yourmusic.com at some point.

it's actually about $10 per cd, as these are 2-cd sets. the msrp is around $34 for each set.

don't count on yourmusic or bmg adding much else to their catalogue any time soon. they're on the brink of extinction.

They seem to still be regularly adding titles it seems. No telling if they would get these though. However, if they do, we're looking at $13.98 per set regardless of msrp. That's pretty much the only place I've picked up those deluxe two cd editions such as Sonic Youth's Dirty.

Yep, that's why there's space for a fourth album in the box with the Amazon exclusive.

nothingfails 07-15-08 10:22 PM

now that we know Under A Blood Red Sky is getting remastered, I'm curious if they will expand Wide Awake In America to include an entire Unforgettable Fire tour performance

keith71 07-16-08 06:57 AM

I wonder if they will do a super deluxe cd/dvd of Rattle and Hum? When this album was released in '88, I remember it was ripped apart by the critics. After the critical acclaim of The Joshua Tree, a U2 backlash was BOUND to happen. Still, I think it holds up pretty well today. It turned 20 this year, so maybe we'll get an anniversary edition this Nov/Dec. Maybe a 15th Anniversary edition of the underrated Zooropa, too?
Next year I guess the Big One, Achtung Baby will be released, as well as Unforgettable Fire. Can't wait.

nothingfails 07-16-08 01:25 PM

about Rattle And Hum, I'd love to see an updated edition of the DVD, but I doubt it since Paramount owns the rights to it and I doubt they'd give it up so Universal could give it the kickass treatment that they've given ZooTV and Popmart

ScissorPuppy 07-17-08 11:16 AM

Personally I can't wait for the Actung Baby and Zooropa deluxe sets

Allmusic goes over the bonus discs

In short: Boy's is pretty raw and energetic, October's is exceptional, and War's kind of blows. That is genius of U2 to have the bonus discs pretty much mimic the proper albums.

cdollaz 07-19-08 04:05 PM

The Amazon set has been pushed back a week. I cancelled my order and will just get them at Best Buy.

Yep, I got that e-mail, too. But I'm leaving my order in place because the price is so good. If it turns out the price at Best Buy is competitive, then I'll cancel my order.

cdollaz 07-19-08 05:33 PM

They are $19.99 each at BB this week, so roughly the same price after tax. You don't get the box/poster, but I really don't care much for those anyway. The funny thing is, if you buy them from Amazon individually, Boy is 19.99, but the other 2 are 27.99. I figured they would all have the same price.

nothingfails 07-19-08 05:40 PM

too bad they don't have a "deluxe box set" option for each album like Joshua Tree. But then, I suppose with the state of the music industry, it's not a safe investment. However, I do believe we will likely see that treatment when it comes time for the remastered Achtung Baby, as that is generally the most beloved and biggest selling album next to Joshua, and even though there's the great Zoo TV tour and all of the music videos are on 90-00, there's still a lot from that era that could be unearthed.

slop101 07-19-08 06:10 PM

Amazon's bummed - I think they're gonna get a lot canceled orders due to their delay.

I'm not canceling, as these aren't exactly new albums that I need to hear a.s.a.p.

You think October is exceptional and War kind of blows?!

By the way, all three are available at Best Buy on Tuesday for $19.99 each.

he's referring to the bonus disc. allmusic says war's blows. not like we couldn't all tell that already from the tracklisting.

at that price, i just might cancel too. the only reason i bought the amazon set is because it was the cheapest option. who cares about the box, anyway?

Probably someone who wants to add a collectible to their collections not many people would have. Since they are $63.57 at BB for me after tax and these are older CDs, I think I can wait and get it from AMAZON. ;)

I really don't like War all that much. "Two Hearts Beat As One," "New Year's Day" and "Surrender" are the only songs on there I would rank up there with the band's best, while the rest is pretty much disposable. October on the other hand I find much more consistent, with the band (and the Edge specifically) throwing out lots of interesting sounds and textures (wanna hear something even crazier? "I Threw a Brick Through a Window" is in my Top 5 U2 Songs list).

Truth be told though, out of their first three albums, I think Boy is their best, and it's second only to Achtung Baby as my favorite album of theirs.

Mr. Salty 07-23-08 01:36 AM

I picked these up at best Buy on my way to work today. I've only made it through the first disc of "Boy," but I'm pretty impressed so far. I like the packaging, especially the lengthy booklets. I don't like the sleeves for the discs, though. I always worry about scratching discs with these types of sleeves.

One thing though: The Best Buy near me only had "War" out on the shelves. Even at 3:30 in the afternoon they hadn't yet put the others out on the floor. Somebody had to go looking for them.
