Those sons of bitches are at it again.

Best Buy has the Super Deluxe Edition in Sunday's circular listed for $39.99 this appears to be the cheapest price that I've been able to track down. Amazon is selling it for $54.99.

Description from the U2 website:

http://www.u2.com/news/title/the-unf...ire-remastered

'This ain't mere genius, this is rock 'n' roll...' (Kerrang, October 1984)

U2's fourth album, The Unforgettable Fire, has been remastered and will be released by Mercury Records on 26th October.

This special edition marks 25 years since the album's original release in October 1984. Recorded at Slane Castle, Ireland, The Unforgettable Fire was the first U2 album to be produced by Brian Eno and Danny Lanois, and spawned two top 10 UK singles - 'Pride (In The Name Of Love)' and 'The Unforgettable Fire'.

Special formats of The Unforgettable Fire will also feature bonus audio material, including two previously unheard tracks from the Slane Castle sessions: 'Yoshino Blossom', and 'Disappearing Act' (a track which the band recently completed), and a DVD including music videos, a documentary and unreleased live footage from the Amnesty International Conspiracy of Hope Tour in 1986.

The Unforgettable Fire has been remastered from the original audio tapes, with direction from The Edge and the album will be available in four formats:

* Limited Edition Box Set: containing 2 CDs (remastered album and bonus audio CD), a DVD with live footage, documentary and videos, a 56 page hardback book with liner notes by The Edge, Brian Eno, Danny Lanois, Bert Van de Kamp and Niall Stokes, and 5 photographic prints

* Deluxe Edition: containing 2 CDs, the remastered album, and the bonus audio CD which features B-sides and previously unreleased material, a 36 page booklet with liner notes by The Edge, Brian Eno, Danny Lanois and Bert Van de Kamp

* CD format: featuring the remastered album

* 12" vinyl format: 16 page booklet with liner notes by Brian Eno, Danny Lanois and Bert Van de Kamp

The Unforgettable Fire track listing is as follows: A Sort of Homecoming, Pride (In The Name Of Love), Wire, The Unforgettable Fire, Promenade, 4th Of July, Bad, Indian Summer Sky, Elvis Presley and America, MLK.

that's a somewhat reasonable price, for a somewhat disappointing package.

the joshua tree's DVD & bonus disc made the purchase worth while.

this one is missing a ton of stuff, and the DVD doesn't seem too thrilling...

Looks like amazon is price matching this, if I'm not mistaken ...

Agreed. If they had included a full live show from TUF era, I would have bought it right away. I ended up buying the 2-disc set at BB tonight and it's a great package.

I'm loving the songs off Disc 2--I'm not that into the all musical ones but I like the Wire remixes and especially A Sort of Homecoming one. Superb. First U2 album (cassette) I ever bought, so this is pretty sweet...

I didn't realize this got cut from the release. I would have still bought the Super Deluxe, but that is a shame...

Got it yesterday and love it! Really enjoying disappearing act!

I bought the super deluxe and as others have said, the dvd is a little underwhelming. I really wish they would have included a full live show. My God, Bono's haircut was hideous in the live footage/videos! He had a Super Mullet working there big time.
Hopefully, next year we will get reissues of Zooropa and my second fave U2 album(the first being The Joshua Tree) Achtung Baby. And what about Pop and Rattle & Hum? Both aren't that much liked by critics and some fans, but I think both of these albums have some gems on them.

What exactly is missing? All of the B-sides, single versions, and Wide Awake In America are here along with a few previously rare alternate mixes.

This is a very comprehensive package IMO

Finally listened to TUF and it sounds fucking AMAZING. Good job Edge. Hopefully they will do Rattle and Hub next, as that seriously is in need of a remaster.

By the way, why oh why oh why oh W*H*Y is their Cole Porter cover of Night and Day not available on ANY of their re-issues or even the B-side disc of the best of????????? This is nothing short of CRIMINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :livid:

If memory serves Night and Day was after R&H but before Achtung - I would expect it on one of those

It's also a B-side on a import single for One called the Steel String Remix it has a 6:57 running time, this might be the same mix that is on iTunes.

Yeah I actually own that remix on that One single. Can't find it now though. But anyway it's a cool mix but nowhere near as good as the original.

By the way, speaking of covers, which cover do you prefer, Night and Day or Dancing Barefoot?

Night and Day...Let me know if you want the original version of N&D from the Red Hot and Blue album...

Personally, I like Dancing Barefoot (it just feels more like a U2 song) but only by a slim margin. I do like Night And Day (now this is when my OCD kicks in) but since it wasn't a true U2 B-side I always consider it just something they did for Red Hot & Blue. Plus, I feel Night & Day is the song that sparked a change in U2 musically (neither a good or bad thing), but this is when they started writing more dance infused songs.

I would love to hear a stripped down (slower) version of Night And Day from U2, I'll assume one has to exist in their vault somewhere.

Re: One and Only U2 Reissues Thread

Got TUF deluxe set for Christmas---awesome edition of my single favorite album of all time. Athough I've liked a number of U2 songs since this one, this was the last full album where I was completely on board with what they were doing on every level.

The remastered album sounds great--every tune is a winner, IMO, and it all fits so well together. From reading the Amazon reviews, it seems like a lot of people don't care for songs like Indian Summer Sky and Elvis Presley and America, but I love both of those as much as anything on the album. To me, U2's Christian and political/spiritual inclinations work MUCH better when the lyrics and music are more abstract and moody (which is why this and October are my favorite albums of theirs).

I haven't watched the DVD yet, but I've enjoyed the 2nd CD a lot. Disappearing Act, though, sounded a bit out of place on my first listen---it's a decent tune, but it sounded more like the current U2, and out of place on Unforgettable Fire to me. Yoshino Blossom, on the other hand, I loved.

Also (and I've thought this since the Wide Awake cassette was released), does anyone else also think that "Love Comes Tumbling" not only should have made the album, but could have been the first single? That is one of my favorite U2 songs ever. "Three Sunrises" is one that I like a lot, but I can see why it was left off the album, but "Love Comes Tumbling" sounds to me like it would have fit in perfectly with the rest of the songs that made the cut.

^^ Keep in mind all/most of the "new" unreleased songs have recently recorded vocals. I think there is one on there that is old, but that may be why you think they sound more current...

Oh, I was only talking about the one song--Disappearing Act. I think that's the only one on TUF where they recorded new vocals.

Out of curiosity, how do you know this? Link?

I've been passing on these sets, partially because they're so expensive and partially because I was never all that crazy for their stuff before Unforgettable Fire.
Today I strolled into our local FYE and found it's closing up in a week. Everyhting was on final clearance and though almost everything there was crap, I found a new copy of the Super Deluxe remaster of Joshua Tree. It was 60% off the absurd list of $60, so that made it $24 plus tax. At that price I had to pick it up. I have the Itunes audio-only version of that Paris concert and think it's awesome. Looking forward to exploring the rest of the set. For those who own it, is the sound on the original album noticably better? Are you happy with the set?

Supermallet 01-17-10 01:28 AM

Re: One and Only U2 Reissues Thread

I've got an FYE closing near me. I should see if they have one.

Re: One and Only U2 Reissues Thread

I got Boy and October deluxe editions and like them but what's with them being nearly max amplified? I don't think they're clipping but pretty close to it, annoying. That's my gripe with lots of reissues. Otherwise they're pretty good, I wish the 70s stuff like "street mission" etc was included with Boy though.

Re: One and Only U2 Reissues Thread

Why does the TUF deluxe edition cost more than Joshua Tree? I know at least with Joshua Tree you get a concert from the era. On TUF you get some music videos already on other DVD's, the Live Aid performance (which is on the Live Aid DVD) and the documentary that's on the U2 Go Home DVD as well. It seems like a bunch of recycled goodies.
