Pumpkins, Foos, Chili Peppers, Police, Roger Waters (maybe he'll shock us and we'll get another Floyd reunion?).. sounds awesome. This is what DVRs were made for, glad I can skim through the early stuff and keep 8 or 10 hours on my box at a time

Waters is by himself. Himself and Gilmour couldn't even look at each other years ago.

And trust me, you really don't want to get into a pissing contest with me over who's more familiar with The Police's music.
Put that thing away.

But reggae's much better known, and reggae/rock, while not totally accurate, is at least in the ballpark. Ska/rock isn't even close.

Relying on skittering guitar and syncopated rhythms, ska was their interpretation of R&B and it was quite popular in the early '60s. However, during one very hot summer, it was too hot to either play or dance to ska, so the beat was slowed down and reggae was born."
FYI, if you can seek out any documentaries about reggae or ska you'll be hip to some of the greatest music man has ever laid down!

Or just look for a copy of the boxset The Story of Jamaican Music.

I haven't been too impressed with the Arctic Monkeys songs that I've heard, but I'll give them a
for their comments.
As for the shows, the line-up seems kind of "meh" to me, but I'll still watch some of it. I won't be camped out by the TV like I was for Live Aid, though.
I just remember getting burned by the TV coverage of Live 8 since most of the acts that I wanted to see then didn't have mainstream US popularity. There'd be some vapid VJ onscreen talking while a band that I liked would be playing in the background.

I'm going to attempt to tape the entire concert as I am a music fan, yes, but also a whore for huge events (and I am proud to say I watched all of Live Aid in my living room when I was 11, so these kinds of concerts have a special place in my heart.
I see Sundance starts their coverage at 4am EDT (24 minutes from now, so I will start my taping there before I go to bed (I was surprised to find out that Sundance was in the NBC/Universal family of networks.
Here's what Im wondering. I see that Bravo pics up coverage at 9am. Am I to assume that there will be one "pool" feed going to all the channels covering this at any given time or will Bravo being showing one thing and Sundance something different. Im also interested as to how much commercial interruptions will play into things. Im guessing not (and I was very impressed with VH1's coverage of the Princess Diana concert last Sunday). But it was all the commercials on MTV and VH1 impossible for me to watch a few years ago.
Looking forward to Giants Stadium (they should really have tried to get this at the Linc in Philadelphia, you know, for the good karma) and Wembly (so glad its finally opened and they did such a great job with it).
Interested to see others comments as the show progresses....
I leave you with a quote from Mark Goodman from Live Aid, 22 years ago....
"I cant give away the play list, but that's 'Rock N Roll' and they're playin 'Stairway'!!!!"

Some of those short films are quite brilliant
The sat does seem to be having some hiccups (unless it's my cable co) for the HD broadcast. Hopefully they'll fix that in time for the European shows.
Rize sounds like a fun little band.

The crowd at Makuhari Messe (Japan) didn't care for Rihanna too much. She wasn't singing that great exept for here 2 main songs which she sang last.
Shakira looked alittle rough at HSH Nordbank Arena (Germany), She was singing good but she didn't look like she had any make-up on.

And I'm showing how little I know about music, but who were the 3 guys that came out with those redshirt "SOS Allstars" and played drums? They looked familiar, just couldn't put names with them.
