The other day
I opened and read it
It said they were suckers
- Public Enemy, Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos
Friday night we'll be drinking Manishevitz
Going out to terrorize Goyem
-NOFX, The Brews

This is a cool topic...
I would offer: "I may not always love you..." from The Beach Boys' God Only Knows (apparently Brian Wilson didn't like it because he felt it started too negative, then when Carl Van Sant or whatever that dude's name was finished reading the lyrics he loved it)

You know what, Stuart, I LIKE YOU. You're not like the other people, here, in the trailer park.
-Dead Milkmen "Stuart"
Eligible, not too stupid
Intelligible, and cute as cupid
Knowledgeable, but not always right
Salvageable, and free for the night
-Magnetic Fields "A Chicken With Its Head Cut Off"

"I saw her standin' on her front lawn
Just a twirlin' her baton
Me and her went for a ride sir
And ten innocent people died"
"Make me a boat
Away I'll float
Into the stillness of a pure blue sky
There's nothing here to hold me now
And I got no more tears to cry"
"There's a kind of a restless feeling and it pulls me from within
It sets my senses reeling and my wheels begin to spin
In the quietude of winter you can hear the wild geese cry
I will always love that sound until the day I die"
"Lido missed the boat that day he left the shack
But that was all he missed and he ain't comin' back"
"Time marches on
Time stands still
Time on my hands
Time to kill "
"We shall walk again
Down along the lane
Down the avenue
Just like we used to do
With our heads so high
Smile at the passers by
Then well softly sigh
Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay"
"Everything, everything, everything, everything
In its right place, in its right place, in its right place, in its right place"

"I do not exist," we faithfully insist
sailing in our separate ships,
and in each tiny caravel -
tiring of trying, there's a necessary dying
Messes of Men by mewithoutYou
And not the opening lyrics, but a stanza I really like from their new record is my signature.

2 years later and nobody mentioned this one.

One day you're going to have to face the deep dark truthful mirror
And it's going to tell you things that I still love you too much to say.
-Deep Dark Truthful Mirror, Elvis Costello
It happened one night at 3 in the morning...the devil appeared in my studio room. And he said, "I'm your pal and I'll make you a deal...blow away all your troubles and take your soul for a toy."
-The Man Who Wrote Danny Boy, Joe Jackson
I remember the year I went to camp
I heard about some lady named Selma and some blacks
Somebody put their fingers in the President's ears
It wasn't too much later they came out with Johnson's wax
-Purple Toupee, They Might Be Giants
