I'm still hoping we finally get a studio recording of "Follow Me Around".
They still don't perform Creep live, or anything off Pablo Honey for that matter.
I saw them at Liberty State Park in NJ 8/17/01. Beta Band and Kid Koala opened for them. It was a fantastic concert. The great thing about these guys is that they sound better live than in the studio. I Might Be Wrong - The Live Recordings album does them no justice. Here is a complete setlist.

03. Optimistic
04. Karma Police

08. Exit Music
09. My Iron Lung
10. No Surprises

16. Everything In Its Right Place
» Encore
17. Morning Bell
18. Fake Plastic Trees
19. Climbing Up The Walls
20. How to Disappear Completely

21. Talk Show Host
22. You and Whose Army?
» 3rd Encore
23. Like Spinning Plates
» 4th Encore
24. The Bends
No Creep despite a group of girls screaming for it all night - that and Let Down (which Thom Yorke just ignored although he was in a cheery and playful mood - as cheery as he's gonna be...). My favorite performance was of You And Whose Army? during which Thom started off alone at a piano with his back to the audience, face making all sorts of goofy contortions into a video camera showing on the enormous screens. The rest of the band joined in later for the crescendo. Awesome.
Any fan of theirs should really do whatever it takes to get to a live show. It's beyond a concert it's more of an experience.

Such an awesome show. I even scored front section tickets.

ah that tour Beta Band, Kid Koala.... all I remember was standing in the torrential rain... and then it was cancelled, as I recall both Bull Run park shows were cancelled due to the freak weather....
with the great lineup it would have been an awesome show...oh well...

Yea it was beyond cool. To be honest I have no memory of Beta that night. I couldn't tell you for sure if they even showed up. I do remember KK though - he was real tight on the plates. I'm a DJ myself so I think that's the only reason I remembered his show.
It was misty out that night and everyone was worried it was gonna pour down on us. Just when KK was finishing up his set you could see it begin to clear up some.
Other than that the entire day leading up to Radiohead is lost in my head. I think it was the anticipation - I was sick with it. Or it coulda been the exstacy... Either way I recall the entire Radiohead set (thank God).

Jack-
Did you go on the 16th or the 17th? Reason I ask is that someone threw something on the stage on the 17th that Thom laughed at, picked up and said something like "You should be careful. You could hurt someone with one of these." I still never found out what the item was. Just curious.

I wanted to revisit this thread b/c I've been listening The Bends A LOT lately. I swear, if 'Street Spirit (Fade Out)' isn't one of the best songs EVER recorded (IMO), I'm not sure what is. I still like Kid A/Amnesiac the best, but The Bends and OKC are growing on me. I can't fall in love with In Rainbows or Hail to the Thief (and I'm still inadvertently avoiding Pablo Honey), but those may come sometime soon.
Just weighing back in.

been listening to ok computer alot recently, mainly for its relaxing qualities, in particular 'Paranoid Android' I really like the sudden heavy part in the middle and end, and that solo is just awesome.

Well when your playlist contains alot of death metal/hardcore music, anything slower is a change of pace, and relaxing.

Here's my history with Radiohead:
OK Computer took a loooooooog time for me to warm up to (and I still don't get all the hype it gets), but I recently watched the Ergo Proxy anime which has Paranoid Android as its closing theme and as a result gave that album another listen and liked it better than I had in the past. I also picked up In Rainbows and I really do like that one.
Where should I go from here if I want more Radiohead?

"The Bends" is a terrific predecessor to "OK Computer" and probably your best bet. I also really love the "My Iron Lung" EP---it came out before "The Bends" and, in a way, is the first real glimpse of future greatness. Their first album, "Pablo Honey", is decent but the production sucks.

It took me a long time to "get" these guys. Man when I did, the flood gates opened. I haven't heard anything yet that I didn't like from these guys. I have spun In Rainbows like a thousand times in the last 3 months or so. So I guess I am a fan right?

I would start with The Bends or OK Computer and move on from there. By the way, OK Computer is their most commercial album, as its the one that sold the most.

Can somebody explain the facination with Radiohead? I hear people write and speak of them as if they are the second coming and/or the greatest band on earth. However, nobody can seem to articulate why.
I've stopped if a song is on the radio and listen to it every now and then, but nothing has ever caught my attention enough that has compelled me to run out and buy an album. After looking through this thread I went on iTunes and ran through the previews for The Bends and Okay Computer, but nothing comes off as a standout. I also understand that the preview method isn't an exactly fair assessment, but I went with what I had.
I'm sure it's not fair to say nothing is revolutionary since at the time they likely may have been the first. One thing I did notice was that they seemed to use lots...lots...of layers. Is their precieved ability to write and preform very "complex" music?
I can appreciate that, but I don't exactly like it. Part of this was spurred by comments in the Viva La Vida thread, as well as reviews on the album. Plus everybody saying that Coldplay and Muse seem to owe everything to likes of U2 and Radiohead and that they are copying. Somebody will have to expalin that as well because I don't understand it.

so based on my experience, if you really want to give them a chance, i recommend buying one of their albums and persevering through a few listens to make up your mind. i can't guarantee that your opinion will change any, but their stuff, more than most, warrants full and repeated listenings in order to form an opinion.

Re: Radiohead, where to start?
That is a good price, although the first 3 albums are coming out soon with a lot of bonus material, so I would look into that also before committing.
