I'll agree with your thoughts re: Kid A and Amnesiac. I didn't like Amnesiac very much until I started listening to Kid A (which didn't happen for the first time until a few months ago), but now I like Amnesiac pretty well.

I think I read somewhere that "Hail to the Thief" is the end of Radiohead "as we know them". It would be interesting if they went back to a more Pablo Honey style of rock music a la Creep.

Actually I have most of the previously unrecorded new stuff they've been playing live lately, and the style is kind of a marriage between The Bends and OK Computer.

It's scary to think they have finally matured as a band but that's what it feels like to me. Like Pablo Honey was their "OMG we're gonna be rockstars" phase, The Bends was the "We'll show you rock like you've never heard it before" phase, OK Computer was the "Get a load of this" phase, Kid A / Amnesiac being the "We can do whatever we want and it's still great" phase, and Hail To The Thief just expanded on that in what might be their most personal album to date. Now it seems like "OK, we've got our legs under us, this is our style, sit back and enjoy".

Kid A is almost perfect. Just get rid of Optimistic and it'd be Radiohead's best album.

Optimistic is probably the best song on that album.

Why the dislike for Optimistic?

And damn this thread...now I'm trying to track down all of their EPs and Singles...I'm thinking I'm better off looking for the EPs of b-sides b/c getting all of the maxi-singles will cost a fortune.

The band itself dismisses the song as rubbish and hasn't played the song in any live setting since 2001. It's the "Electioneering" of Kid A.

I didn't forget it, I have it. It's definitely a hot one. The more I think of it, the new stuff is OK Computer with just a touch of The Bends as opposed to an equal marriage.

I'm still hoping we finally get a studio recording of "Follow Me Around".

They still don't perform Creep live, or anything off Pablo Honey for that matter.
I saw them at Liberty State Park in NJ 8/17/01. Beta Band and Kid Koala opened for them. It was a fantastic concert. The great thing about these guys is that they sound better live than in the studio. I Might Be Wrong - The Live Recordings album does them no justice. Here is a complete setlist.

No Creep despite a group of girls screaming for it all night - that and Let Down (which Thom Yorke just ignored although he was in a cheery and playful mood - as cheery as he's gonna be...). My favorite performance was of You And Whose Army? during which Thom started off alone at a piano with his back to the audience, face making all sorts of goofy contortions into a video camera showing on the enormous screens. The rest of the band joined in later for the crescendo. Awesome.

Any fan of theirs should really do whatever it takes to get to a live show. It's beyond a concert it's more of an experience.

No "Creep" at live shows?!? Fuck that. That's as bad as the Beastie Boys disowning "License to Ill". Just not caring about the people who buy the tickets and CDs.

I'm sorry, but I don't think this is quite accurate. While it's certainly not commonplace, I know that they do still perform Creep. I heard it at Coachella a couple of years ago, and also saw them perform it on the video of the V Festival. Additionally, I can recall looking through the set-lists of the 2006 performances, and believe they played it 3 or 4 times.

It's 2007. Anybody going to a Radiohead show wanting to hear "Creep" probably deserves to be disappointed.

They still play it but mostly as a joke.

I haven't been disappointed by Radiohead yet, be it live performances or albums. The frequency with which they play Creep has absolutely no bearing on the amount of aural bliss this band has given me.
